Collection At Colne For Eccleshall

A collection organised among supporters at the Colne v Eccleshall MEN United Cup game raised over £100 towards the cost of replacing equipment at Eccleshall's Adverc Stadium.
A recent break-in resulted both in equipment being stolen and damage to the premises, with costs of replacement and repair running into thousands of pounds.
Having suffered three break-ins in just over 12 months, officials at Colne know only too well the situation Eccleshall find themselves in, and as Colne’s Janette Harries explained, a decision was taken to help them out on Saturday.
“Stephen Cunningham, dad of our first team manager Steve, contacted the club before the game and said he wanted to increase the normal number of raffle prizes, and collect as much money as possible to donate to Eccleshall. Colne club officials immediately agreed", she explained.
“Linda Priestley took her normal raffle collection at the gate, then Steve and his wife Trish travelled round the ground encouraging everyone to dig deep in support of Eccleshall.
“Over £100 was raised, a great effort from a gate of 109 spectators”.
Eccleshall Secretary Jim Tunney said that the gesture came as a complete surprise.
“Having had a recent break in themselves, Colne know the effect it can have on a club in terms of stolen items, unnecessary damage and finding the funding to cover this”, said Jim.
“To hear the announcement over the tannoy at the interval that the club was donating the proceeds of the match day raffle to Eccleshall FC following our break in, came as a complete surprise and was totally unexpected.
“Receiving the money from Steve Cunningham after the game was a really class act by everyone associated with Colne Football Club and greatly appreciated by us. We wish them well in the semi final and for the rest of the season".
