County Cup Semi-Final For Colne

Weather permitting, Colne hit the cup trail this week, with a semi-final tie in the Partners Foundation Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.

Colne face Chorley in a tie that has already fallen foul of the weather, having originally been scheduled for Tuesday but put back 24 hours until Wednesday evening to allow the County Ground at Leyland to dry out.

Chorley are no strangers to NWCFL sides at this stage in the competition, having beaten AFC Darwen and Holker Old Boys in the past two seasons.

Just as they have done in the past two seasons, the Magpies will provide tough competition, and have had a decent season so far in the Vanarama National League North, where they sit tenth in the league table.

Their scheduled game against Gloucester City on Saturday was postponed, but they come into the semi-final on the back of a good 3-2 derby win against AFC Fylde, in which Jack Lynch, a scorer against Holker Old Boys in last year's semi-final, grabbed the opening goal.

But Colne are in no mean form themselves, and although they have been affected by a number of postponements in recent weeks, they are on a run that has seen them win six of their last seven games.

It's a tough test for Steve Cunningham's men, but a side with the best goalscoring ratio in the Premier Division, and the second best defensive record, will be well equipped to cause their experienced opponents some problems on the night, and we wish them well in what promises to be a fascinating game.
