Padiham’s home fixture with Nelson this Saturday (January 2nd) at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground YESSS Electrical Arena has been designated "Donate a Bottle Day".

Supporters who donate a bottle of spirits to the club on entry to the game will be given a free match day programme, and help the club provide prizes for a New Year’s Raffle.

Club Secretary Alan Smith said: “We did this a couple of seasons ago and it was very successful and proved to be an ideal way of supporters passing on an unwanted Christmas present.

“We are desperate to beat the weather and get Saturday’s game on, as revenue from home games has dried up after not staging a home fixture for two months because of postponements and rearranged fixtures”.

Padiham has been one of the many towns affected by flooding in the past week, and saw some of the town’s worst flooding for over 50 years when the River Calder burst its banks on Boxing Day.

As a result, Saturday’s match referee Kelvin Sarsfield, who hails from nearby Burnley, will be hoping for a more straightforward journey to the Arbories than he had last Saturday, on the day that the rains came to the town.

“Only Kelvin’s determination and ingenuity saw him negotiate a flooded town centre to make his way through to the ground and make the mandatory pitch inspection before calling the home game against AFC Darwen off because of a waterlogged pitch”, said Alan.

“He will be hoping he hasn`t to do the same this Saturday”.
