Two Club Events For Billy

AFC Blackpool Secretary Billy Singleton is looking forward to the second of two notable events at the club in the space of a few weeks.
With plans in place for his 70th birthday celebration at the club in just over a fortnight's time, Billy is now also enjoying working in his new club office, which has been built as part of an extension to the club house facilities at the Mechanics ground, and was ready for the start of the season.
Billy - one of the few people who has attended every League AGM since the NWCFL was established in 1982 - is one of the League's longest serving club officials, as well of course as being a member of the League Management Committee.
Over the years, he has often been found working in the small office in the foyer at the clubhouse entrance, but now he can enjoy his new surroundings while carrying out club administrative duties.
"The new office is all kitted out and state of the art", said Billy. "It's part of a new extension which also houses new disabled toilet facilities, and we also have a new modular building which we will be using for hospitality.
"The old office is still there in the clubhouse, and it will be used now by the Secretary of our club's Junior section.
"My new office was finally ready in time for the opening day of the season, when we played Runcorn Linnets, and when League Secretary John Deal told me he would be coming over for the game, I thought it was be a nice idea if he officially opened it.
"He was the first person through the door of the office once it was finished, it hadn't been used at all, and I'm going to get a little plaque made with the date it was opened".
Having settled into his new domain, Billy can now concentrate on the next milestone to be celebrated at the club - his 70th birthday.
"I've been at the club for 35 years this year, so I've been here for half of my life", he said. "On the day of my birthday, on the 9th September, I've organised a walking football competition at the club in association with the Blackpool Community Trust.
"There will be games played between 12 and 2 pm, and then we'll head to the clubhouse afterwards for some hot pot and drinks. Then on the Saturday night, it's back to the clubhouse when we'll have a party".
