Litherland REMYCA will welcome ladies footballing legend Sue Smith to their Girls Development Training Session on Wednesday 21st January, which takes place at South Sefton College

Sue, who was born in Prescot and played for St Helens Ladies as a youth, made her England debut as a 17–year–old substitute in February 1997, scoring in a 6–4 friendly defeat to Germany at Deepdale in Preston.

Her international career spanned almost 15 years, and she has twice won the Nationwide International Player Of The Year award and in 1999 was also voted Players' Player of the Year.

She will be attending the REMYCA session as part of her ambassadorial role with Sporting Champions, one of the aims being to inspire and motivate girls and ladies to take part in organised football activity.

REMYCA's Head of Youth Development, Colin Begbie, is understandably very pleased to get Sue down to the training session.

"It will be great for the girls who have been training for the last few months to meet Sue, who is a great example of what can be achieved", he said.

"Her experience and wealth of knowledge will hopefully help inspire these players to carry on their footballing journey, and will hopefully help to get new players down to the join the group.

"I would like to thank Sue, everyone at Sporting Champions and also LCFA Youth Council Leader Joe Ryan who has helped to get this sorted.

"Joe has been running ‘Just Play’ sessions for girls every Monday evening at Everton Park Sports Centre and it is hoped we can continue to work hand in hand to provide more girls a clear pathway to getting involved in organised football”.
