Macron Cup Final
Fri 10th May 2024 | Macron Cup | By Martin Fallon
There is just one day to go until the Macron Cup Final as Barnoldswick Town and Chadderton bring the curtain down on another NWCFL season.
The Wham Stadium, home of Accrington Stanley is the venue for this season's Cup Final, with kick off at 3.00pm. It promises to be a close affair that is difficult to call.
Both teams have had good seasons, with Chadderton just missing out on the Play Offs on goal difference after consistantly good results in their debut season. Barnoldswick Town had a fine start but struggled in the middle of the season, however a change in Management in March has rejuvenated them.
Barnoldswick's route to the final saw them win 4-3 at local rivals Colne in the First Round, before successive 4-0 wins over Shelley and Route One Rovers in the next two rounds. They then beat Charnock Richard 2-1 at home in the Quarter Final before coming from two goals behind to beat Alsager Town 4-2 in the Semi Final.
Chadderton had a succession of away games, winning 1-0 at Winsford United, 4-3 at Litherland Remyca, 4-3 at Cheadle Heath Nomads and 3-2 at Kendal Town, before finally getting a home game in the Semi Final against Droylsden. They lost 4-1 to Droylsden, however the visitors fielded an ineligible player with Chadderton being reinstated.
Head to head there's not much in it. Barnoldswick Town won their home game against Chadderton 1-0 in just the second game of the season, with Chadderton then winning their home game 6-1 later in the season. These were the first league meetings between the two sides since Barnoldswick's first season in the league in 2009, when each side won their away games! The only other meeting came in the Macron Cup in February 2012, Barnoldswick winning a 3-2 thriller in extra time.
