The Player of the Month awards for February 2023 have been announced.

PREMIER DIVISION - JACK ARROWSMITH (LONGRIDGE TOWN)

Jack is just 21 years of age and was signed by Longridge Town in the summer form Blackpool Wren Rovers of the West Lancashire Premier League. Although a step up of several divisions Jack has worked hard and improved his game, playing in several wide positions for the Club.

He has no ‘Academy’ background and is a very raw talent, and receiving structured coaching of a higher level has undoubtedly helped him. He has however the ability to absorb instructions, particularly positionally, whilst on the pitch and is now scoring goals frequently. He is also ranked highly in the MOTM awards table as nominated by our opponents.  He has probably peaked in February, thanks to us having many games to play after a hard winter, playing in 6 matches, scoring 5 goals, and having been awarded the man of the match on 3 occasions.

His disciplinary record is also excellent and, off the pitch he is a credit to himself, his family, and our Club. Once again we are now in the proud, but sometimes frustrating, position where one of our players is being scouted by many Clubs higher up in the football pyramid, including Football League clubs, and we feel that Jack has earned the right to be nominated, and hopefully rewarded, due to his commitment and improvement so far this season.

Sadly he picked up what looks to be a serious knee injury in our final game of the month against Padiham, and it appears he may now miss the rest of the season.

Well done Jack, and best of luck with your recovery!

FIRST DIVISION NORTH - MICHAEL GERVIN (BACUP BOROUGH)

Michael is the captain of a young team playing in a tough North West Counties League. Michael is everything a captain should be, very much an all rounder, off the field he keeps the lads together ensuring a fantastic dressing room, on the pitch he is a fantastic footballer, very much the technician of the team with his ability on the ball and the way he creates good moves.

He helps switch the play very quickly from defence into attack, with his skill, his vision, his work rate is there for all to see.

At the hearbeat of a team that has had a superb month including reaching both NWCFL Cup Semi Finals, Michael has received 3 Man of the Match awards from opponents out of 6 games that we played.

Well done Michael!

FIRST DIVISION SOUTH - BRYAN LY (WYTHENSHAWE AMATEURS)

Bryan was awarded Player of the Month for January, following four man of the match awards, and a purple patch of performances. We are pleased to say the high standard he has set himself has extended into February, with Bryan the first player to win successive awards since James Kirby for Sandbach United in 2018.

He has been awarded Man of the Match by our opponents on three occasions, in the five games he has played, scoring three goals, with one assist. He has seven man of the match awards in his last 10 games.

Social media described ‘ Bryan Ly twists and turns his way past three or four defenders …’ followed again by ‘ twisting and turning, firing it past the keeper ‘. A constant thorn for opposition teams. Another description ‘ Bryan Ly with an exquisite free kick, keeper at full stretch, only got his fingertips to it ‘.

He oozes class, dominates midfield, vision, distribution, respected by both his peers and opposition. Bryan has an excellent attitude, professional approach, commitment, one of the first to arrive at training, always determined to learn and improve.

His approach to the game has won many plaudits amongst the supporters, a great example and a credit to the club and everyone who helps and supports him.

Well done Bryan!
