Like many club's, Wythenshawe Amateurs are working on a mumber of items as they prepare for the new season, a season which will begin with an FA Cup Campaign.  Amongst the many logistics they are looking to get into place they have not just sourced a new sportswear partnership, they have also taken time to honour their Club President.

Wythenshawe AFC are delighted to announce the naming of the Main Stand at Hollyhedge Park in the name of Club President John Walker.

July 19th this year marked John’s 70th anniversary as part of Wythenshawe Amateurs and the naming of the John Walker Stand is a tribute to the many years of service and fantastic work and legacy that John has put in to the Club.

The stand was unveiled on Sunday, 16th August 2020, by the High Sheriff of Manchester, and proud Wythenshawe man, Eamonn O’Neill, who was joined by the Club’s Ultras and board members and John’s family as the weather held off long enough to allow a number of photographs

Ammies Chairman, Carl Barratt, speaking on behalf of the Club said, “John Walker has been an integral part of this football club for 70 years, he has held almost every position at the club and has been a real driving force behind the Club getting to where we are today. To name a stand after John is a great tribute to immortalise all the work he has done over the years. I’d like to place on record on behalf of all at the Club our thanks to John for everything he has done and continues to do at our great club.”

The renaming has been  planned for a number of weeks and was kept a secret from John who had no idea what was happening. John was both surprised and delighted with the news saying that, “It’s brilliant, I had no idea what was planned, I was really emotional when I first saw the stand, I’m really proud that all my mates within the Club were here and I’d like to thank Carl and everyone at the club. I’m glad that my son Alan, who lives in New Zealand also got to see the news and I’m thankful that my family got to share this moment with me.”

There is a lot going on at The Ammies as they have this week also announced a parntership with Sportswear Brand, Puma. They have stated:

"We are delighted to welcome Puma Teamwear to The Ammies as our new First Team Back of Shirt sponsor for the 2020/21 season.

The partnership will see the Puma Teamwear branding feature on the back of the Ammies first team brand new kits for the new season. Today we will also be releasing images of our new Puma home and change kits for the season ahead, which will be available for supporters to buy in due course.

Speaking on the new partnership, commercial manager, David Broadbent, said, “This is fantastic news for us, to be working with a company of the size and stature of Puma is a real coup for us. The new kits look fantastic and the lads will look very professional. Working with companies like Puma show that as a club we are moving forwards and we are looking forward to working together over the course of the season.”

Puma are also looking forward to the upcoming season, “Everyone is delighted to welcome The Ammies to the PUMA family, the Club has come a long way in such a short space of time and we look forward to playing a part in the next chapter of the Clubs journey. The selected kits are somewhat eye catching and we can’t wait to see the team wearing PUMA in 2020/21.”

Images of the new kits will be revealed by the club shortly and will be worn for the first time in our upcoming FA Cup fixture.
