High fives for Vase success
Congratulations to Avro, Irlam, Silsden and Runcorn Town, who clinched places in the Third Round of the Buildbase FA Vase at the weekend.
The quartet will be joined by either Prestwich Heys or Northwich Victoria, who will replay in midweek following their goalless stalemate at Adie Moran Park on Saturday.
It's always good to have our league represented in the later stages of the Vase, and fingers crossed that we will have more success to celebrate after the Third Round ties are played in December.
Momentum keeps going for Rylands
Rylands continue to be the form team in Division One South at the moment, with their 3-0 win at Eccleshall on Saturday being their fifth in six games.
What's more, Saturday's game was the fourth clean sheet in succession, and at the other end they have hit the back of the net 20 times.
A mean defence and good goalscoring form is a tidy combination, and it's little wonder that they are setting the pace at the top of the table.
Another seven up for Town
As well as being their fifth win in six games, Wythenshawe Town's 7-1 win at Stone Dominoes was the latest demonstration of the firepower that Town have in their ranks.
Seven different players were on the scoresheet for Town for the second time in a game this season, following on from their 11-3 win at Eccleshall when the same thing happened.
The phrase "goals throughout the team" seems to sum up Town at the moment.
Early action at Cheadle and Bacup
Hopefully, all the spectators who set off to watch the games between Bacup Borough and Daisy Hill, and Cheadle Town against Abbey Hulton United, got there in time for kick off on Saturday, because if they didn't they will have been left rueing their bad time keeping.
At the Brian Boys West View Stadium, after just 11 minutes Bacup and Daisy were tied at 2-2, and after the early flurry of action, two further goals from Bacup in the second half earned them a 42 win.
It was an even more frantic opening at Park Road, where Ben Brooks opened the scoring for Cheadle in the first minute, before Abbey Hulton replied with an equaliser in the third minute from Lee Cropper before Angelo Errico struck what proved to be the winner in the fifth minute.
Clearly a case of teams hitting the ground running from the first blast of the whistle.
Winning feeling at last for Ellesmere
At long last Ellesmere Rangers have that winning feeling, after they picked up their first league win of the season with a 1-0 triumph at Alsager Town on Saturday.
It's been a tough start to the season for the Swans, but now that they have the monkey off their backs, they will be looking to kick on in the coming weeks and climb out of the relegation zone.
