Challenge Cup Semi Final Abandoned

The League Challenge Cup semi-final second leg between Maine Road and Norton United on Thursday night was abandoned after 33 minutes due to a floodlight failure at Brantingham Road.
The problem was caused by a fault at the mains, which as well as affecting the floodlights, also caused an interruption to the power supply in the club house for a short period of time.
In front of a good sized crowd, the game was able to start in daylight, but the referee stopped the game after 21 minutes as the light became poor. After a delay of around three minutes, the lights along the far side of the ground began functioning, enabling the referee to restart the game again.
In the 26th minute, Maine Road scored to go 3-1 ahead on aggregate, but on the half hour mark, one complete floodlight pylon stopped working, and in the 33rd minute the referee again stopped play as the light was too poor to continue.
Despite the efforts of an electrician, the power supply to the lights was unable to be restored, giving the referee no option but to abandon the game.
A decision will be made in due course with regard to a date for the re-arranged fixture.
