The excitement is building at the NWCFL headquarters ahead of the 38th season - and with three promotion spots up for grabs in the NWCFL top flight, managers up and down the region have been busy recruiting hard for an exciting campaign ahead.

Last season saw City of Liverpool win the title on the final day of the season with a 2-0 away win at Irlam, whilst Bootle could only manage a draw against fourth-placed Northwich Victoria.

At the opposite end of the table, West Didsbury & Chorlton and Abbey Hey were both relegated to the First Division South division.

This season we welcome back Skelmersdale United to the division after a 14-year absence in the Northern Premier League and manager Paul McNally is looking to rebuild his side’s mentality after a difficult term.

Longridge Town, Rylands and Avro were all promoted to the Premier Division from the First Divisions. Longridge won the First Division North and Rylands the South and Avro gained enough points to be one of the promoted second-placed sides at Step 6.

Lee Ashcroft, Longridge's manager did say that he would stay loyal to his players who won them promotion and is doing just that. Whilst Ryland's David McNabb has high ambitions going into the new season and has shown this with some big signings.

Avro's James Hampson will not settle for mid-table mediocracy in their first season in the NWCFL top flight.

In 2020/21 we have heard from The FA that many lateral movements could occur, and the probability of up to seven NWCFL Premier Division teams been moved is high and these could include some of the sides on the extremities of the region.

Barnoldswick Town is on the outskirts of the region, along with Padiam, Congleton Town, AvroHanley Town and Whitchurch Alport, but so many factors come into the frame that it is impossible to predict what will happen in the next twelve months.

With many derbies to look forward to this campaign including Litherland REMYCA versus Bootle, 1874 against Northwich Victoria and Burscough taking on Skelmersdale United, their nearest geographical rivals it is going to be an exciting season ahead.
