The final Saturday game of the 2020 Groundhop had a lot to follow on from and unfortunately the game wasn’t the most entertaining for the neutral.

Unlike the rest of the games throughout the day the game had a slow start with not many chances created by either side until the eighteenth minute when Cheadle took the lead. The ball dropped nicely for the divisions top goal scorer Patrick Davin who struck the ball past a helpless Conrad Betton in the visiting goal.

Betton was called into action midway through the first half as Benjamin Brooks found himself one on one with the visiting keeper. Betton stood his ground and blocked the shot to keep his side in the game.

The hosts managed to double their lead in the first minute of the second half as a corner made its way out to Harry Hatton on the edge of the box who struck a shot into the bottom corner that Davin stabbed home for his second.

Maine Road tried to find a way back into the game and with five minutes remaining managed to half the deficit as Ben Mooney struck from inside the box.

A consultation goal is all it turned out to be though as Cheadle Town held out for the three points to end a busy day of football.
