Fri 20th December 2019 | League Awards
By Craig Kendall

Just before Ashton Town's game on Tuesday evening  against Shelley in NWCFL First Division North, goalkeeper Christopher Cheetham was presented with the award for Reusch NWCFL First Division North Goalkeeper of November by NWCFL League Management Committee member Martin Fallon.

Here is why he was nominated:

Games Played: 3

Man of the Match: 0

Clean Sheets: 0

Conceded: 6

Reason for Nomination: "Christopher Cheetham is a recent recruit this season, joining us late this season, signing his registration form on the 15th November. He comes to join us with some pedigree of experience at a higher level. He has moulded a great relationship with the rest of the team in almost no time whatsoever and you would think he has been with us for ages. He supports fellow team members both during training sessions, match days and off-field also. He is an imposing presence between the posts.

"With the previous experience he brings with him has quickly shown what a solid goalkeeper he is in supporting our backline and is a very vocal keeper barking out instructions not only to our defence but also to our midfield and forwards!! His continued vigilance during spells of none activity is key to him ensuring alertness for key moments during a game. Chris has played in the following games this month:- Saturday 23rd November at home to Abbey Hey in the PlayerMatch.Com cup in a 2-2 draw at full time losing out 8-9 on penalties, some quality goalkeeping in this match from not only saves made but also how he marshalled the defence.

"Tuesday 26th November at home to Steeton in the league in a 1-1 draw, making some crucial saves during the game to snuff out the Steeton threats and only agonisingly to concede the equalising goal in the 90th minute. Saturday 30th November in the league away to St. Helens Town in a 3-1 loss, making some fine saves in a crazy match we should have won after squandering numerous chances upfront which cost us dearly in the end."
