MACRON PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARDS
PREMIER DIVISION - STEVE FOSTER OF CONGLETON TOWN
In a mixed month of form for the Bears that saw two 4-1 defeats and progress to the Macron Cup semi-final, a record of P4, W2 L2 F11 A9 is not much to shout about.
However, the consistent form of Steve Foster during the month stood out. Steve has been around a good while and many clubs will have benefitted from his service, and his accomplished finishing.
Not many players stood out in the 4-1 defeat at Evo-Stik League Runcorn Linnets that began the month, but there was more to cheer in the Macron Cup quarter final at home to Cammell Laird 1907, which the Bears won 6-0 and Steve got on to the score sheet with a clinical finish, slotting home past an advancing goalkeeper with accurate placement.
A first 45 minutes at home against Abbey Hey did not produce one shot on goal, but after the break Steve opened the scoring with a glancing header from 10 yards from a diagonal cross from the right over the 'keeper and into the top corner.
His second goal was a typically cool finish, running on to a long clearance and delivering a coolly lifted ball over the advancing 'keeper and he deservedly earned a man of the match award for his display.
A second 4-1 defeat of the month at the hands of Silsden saw Steve on the scoresheet again, albeit a consolation goal late on, but the finish was clever. He deliberately deflected a goal bound shot (covered by the 'keeper) to send the ball into the net close to the post.
With four goals out of 11 scored in four matches, and 1 of 2 possible man of the match nominations, Steve's consistent performances were a highlight of the month for the Bears.
FIRST DIVISION NORTH - THOMAS INCE OF LONGRIDGE TOWN
Three games in February and three man of the match awards makes Thomas a worthy winner of the award for the month.
Away at Prestwich Heys, and at home to Carlisle City and Avro, Longridge won all three matches during the month, and Thomas was quite rightly awarded MOM by all three opponents due to his consistency in the number 10 role.
Hardworking and great sense of vision for 90 minutes is Tom’s key to providing the passes and links from defence to attack, and he also weighs in with goals to add to his overall performances.
Tom uses his speed and awareness to take advantage of vacated space and gets Longridge clicking as a potential attacking force. He has great energy and is also good at set pieces and him positioning and anticipation is spot on.
He is one of the first names on the team sheets and although opposition teams make it difficult for him, he is a credit to the team in how he manages his play and his number 10 role.
Tom is a brilliant performer and never lets the team down.
FIRST DIVISION SOUTH - GARY KENNY OF RYLANDS
Gary had a brilliant month in February, leading his team into the semi final of the Liverpool Senior Cup as well as seeing them take a 7 point lead at the top of Division One South.
Club captain Gary put in five outstanding performances in February and started the month playing his part in the team's clean sheet against Eccleshall. The game was played in very difficult conditions with it being one of only two games played across all three leagues and the only one played on a natural surface.
The game was a good game with both teams intent on attacking, with Gary leading the team to a 3-0 win.
The next game in the month was an away game to AFC Liverpool in the Quarter Final of the Liverpool Senior Cup. AFC Liverpool came into the match on a six game winning run and were limited to very few chances in a 4-1 win for Rylands. Gary was excellent in this game and was voted MOM for his performance.
Next up was a 4-1 win at home to Stockport Town, and after leading 1-0 just before half time, a mistake led to an equaliser for the visitors. With the game being such an important one for the club it was during the break that Gary as club captain showed his true worth. Rallying his troops he made sure that the lads came out in the second half full of confidence and belief. The team went on to score three second half goals without reply.
The next opponents in the month were St Martins at home, a team who had beaten Rylands earlier in the season. In a game where the team didn't perform at its best Gary again led by example ensuring that his lads didn't panic or try to force openings but remain patient. They did just that eventually getting the breakthrough in the 79th minute.
Gary then ensured his defence held firm to see the game out and pick up another 3 points, and after the game he was again voted MOM.
The final game of the month was an away game against second placed Wythenshawe Amateurs, which was a closely fought encounter in which Rylands took an early lead.
Gary was a colossus in the heart of the defence, putting his body on the line to block shots, win headers and make massively important tackles. Despite being the most consistent player of the whole season, which often goes unnoticed, this was Gary's best performance of the season and earned him another MOM award
Overall the performances Gary has put in personally have been second to none but it's also the leadership qualities he brings to his side that set him apart. An excellent footballer and a true leader, he is a deserving winner of the award.
REUSCH GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH AWARDS
PREMIER DIVISION - DANIEL TABERENER OF NORTHWICH VICTORIA
Daniel has been a consistent performer between the stick for Vics all season, and he played a key role in an important month for the club that saw them lose just once in five games.
He only conceded four goals in five games during the month, keeping two cleans sheets and turned in two outstanding displays in the Buildbase FA Vase, in Vics' 3-1 win at Histon and in the 3-1 defeat of the FA Vase favourites Sholing.
He has had a tremendous season for Vics and has already appeared in over 40 games, keeping up a high level of performance throughout the campaign.
FIRST DIVISION NORTH - PAUL DAY OF SHELLEY
Paul recovered from a bad start to the month, and showed character by responding to being beaten four times in the home game against Nelson. In the other three games during the month, Paul conceded just the one goal.
He kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win at Holker Old Boys, and although he was beaten once against St Helens Town, Shelly ended up running out 3-1 winners.
Paul rounded off the month by keeping another clean sheet in the goalless draw against Chadderton.
Paul is an excellent shot stopper and also a very good organiser and motivator for the team as a whole, and his performances during February are deserving of the award.
FIRST DIVISION SOUTH - AARON LYONS OF BARNTON
Aaron's consistent performances are becoming noticed outwith his own club, and he enjoyed a good month between the sticks for the Villagers in February.
Although he began the month being beaten once in the 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Cammell Laird 1907, he played his part in the other two games in the month by keeping clean sheets in games that led to Barnton victories.
After playing in the 1-0 win over New Mills, he picked up the MOM award in the 3-0 win over Cheadle Town.
Aaron's saves have been instrumental and at key times in games, and he played a significant role in Barnton's two victories during the month.
