Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round Draw

Mon 10th September 2018 | FA Challenge Cup
By Martin Fallon

The draw was made at lunchtime for the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup. Ties involving our three remaining sides are as follows:

Chester v City Of Liverpool

Dunston UTS v Irlam

York City v Ashton Athletic or Morpeth Town

Ties to be played on the weekend of Saturday 22nd September 2018

City of Liverpool have landed themselves one of the big teams who enter the draw at this stage, as they were drawn away at National League North outfit Chester.

Last season saw them relegated from the National League, the highest division in Non-League Football, and they are currently in 17th position. This is something of a false position with up to three games in hand on all teams above them after several games were postponed in August due to water damage at their stadium.

This will be the first time that Chester - who are managed by former NWCFL alumni Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley - have faced one of our sides in the FA Cup, although they have met five of our sides in Cheshire Senior Cup games since they were formed in 2010.

Irlam's reward for reaching the Second Qualifying Round for the first time is an away trip to Northern League side Dunston UTS.

Dunston, who won the FA Vase Final at Wembley in 2011/12, are unbeaten so far this season and this is the second time in three seasons that they have reached this stage of the competition.

It is also the fourth successive season Dunston have faced one of our sides in the FA Cup, with Barnoldswick Town beating them the last time they faced us last season.

Ashton Athletic and Morpeth Town will play again this week in their replay knowing that a trip to National League North side York City is on the cards.

It is arguably the biggest tie that you can get, with York having spent over 70 years in the Football League. But they have endured successive relegations in the last two seasons to the lowest league they have ever played in, and this is the first time that they have ever entered the Cup at this stage.

York are currently in 9th position in National League North, and have never previously faced one of our sides in any competitive game.
