Like with the Premier Division, it would be easy to dismiss the last couple of weeks as near write-offs when it comes to getting games on.  However the brave and hardy groundspersons who have been out in mud, hail and flood who have managed to get games on have made the small amount of games that have taken place really count.  The league table is starting to take an expected form and this weekend sees a number of high profile fixtures that in some case could even define a season.

So let’s take a look at what is scheduled.  No League game for Cammell Laird this weekend as they take on Ellesmere Port Town in The Wirral Senior Cup Quarter Finals.

Let us take a look at the clubs who do have games and starting at Birches Head road, where League leaders Silsden AFC travel to Abbey Hulton United looking to strengthen their seemingly tight grip on the top spot. Their win over second placed Litherland Remyca last weekend was a genuine six pointer and could be the result that defines their season.   Abbey Hulton have won two of their last three league games but currently sit sixteenth in the league table and will be keen to gain a win to rise above a number of clubs around them with a similar points and goal difference ratio.

Atherton LR host fourth placed Prestwich Heys at Crilly Park with LR slipping back a notch to thirteenth in the table following a couple of consecutive defeats to Sandbach last weekend and a 1-3 revers at home to Bacup Borough in midweek.  Prestwich have slipped down to fourth of late with the emergence of Whitchurch Alport staking their claim.  Heys’ go into this match off three straight wins and having scored three goals in each of those games are not short of firepower.

Carlisle City take on Sandbach United at Gillford Park and have only one win in their last four which was their impressive 3-1 win away at AFC Blackpool last weekend.  Sandbach’s win at Atherton LR last weekend sees them still in seventh position but very much in the coattails of the sides above them in the play-off positions.

Chadderton take on Bacup Borough at ARK Fleetech Stadium with both clubs in the bottom six of the table and only three points between them.  For both of these sides getting games on has been the main issue and Bacup showed in midweek what they can do on their day when they travelled to Crilly Park and cane away with a creditable 1-3 win on the road.  Chadderton have lost their last five league games and will be keen to end that run hoping that home advantage will help.

Eccleshall and Daisy Hill go heat to head at Pershall Park with both clubs in the bottom five of the table but both showing signs of ambition and drive to climb.  Eccleshall go into this one off the back of a couple of wins, those being against FC Oswestry and Cammell Laird respectively and Daisy Hill’s last outing was a respectable 2-2 draw with New Mills last weekend.

On the subject of FC Oswestry Town they host in-form Nelson at The Venue.  Oswestry currently sit twelfth in the league table as things stand and have won three of their last four games however Nelson are actually fourth in the form table with only one defeat in their last six games in all competitions and in hot pursuit of Daisy Hill and the other sides above them.

Holker Old Boys will look to continue their strong challenge for a play-off spot as they host St Helens Town at Rakesmoor.  Holker have been fairly solid at home all season and will be keen to keep the pressure on the likes of Sandbach and Cammell Lairds but will face a tough challenge in St Helens Town who play a lot better than their third from bottom league standing suggests.

New Mills take on second placed Remyca at Church Road with the home side unbeaten in their last couple of league games and having climbed up to fifteenth in the standings.  Remyca’s 2-1 away defeat at leaders Silsden last weekend will have been a tough one to take but they will need to keep on their toes as Whitchurch Alport’s strong form sees them looming just a place below them.

Stockport Town have the tough quest this weekend of taking on Whitchurch Alport at Lambeth Grove.  Whitchurch Alport have been in superb form for a while now and this has seen them scale the table into third spot, right on the heels of Litherland Remyca.  Stockport are currently eleventh but in recent league games they have won only one of their last six and lost the rest so they will need to do something special this weekend if they are to halt the Alport Express.
