City of Liverpool held a fundraising bucket collection last Saturday on behalf of local junior football team River Juniors Mares Under 9's.

Parents and friends have been raising money to enable the children to take part in a football tournament which will be held in Barcelona. They play in the Walton & Kirkdale JFL, and Paul Shallcross, whose son Harry plays for the team, is himself a keen Purps fan, and asked if they would be able to do a collection at one of the home matches.

City of Liverpool Media Director Gary Johansen said: "Paul came to us a while ago asking if we could help out with this fundraiser, and we were only too happy to oblige. As a community club, our focus is reaching out to help when we can, and you couldn't get any more grass roots than supporting kids junior football.

"We were also pleased to have a number of the children as match mascots on the day, as well as have young Harry in the programme doing his 'Purple Kidz' article".

Paul Shallcross, who together with other Dads and lads connected to River Juniors Mares Under 9's, recently climbed Snowdon to help with the fundraising efforts (the group are pictured below).

He was delighted with the event on Saturday and added: "We had a great day at the game against Congleton Town. All the kids and parents loved it and we've now got a few more new fans who have said they will be coming along to watch The Purps again!".

"We raised £311 which is a fantastic amount, and we would just like to say a massive thank you to City of Liverpool FC for allowing us in to do the collection, we are all very grateful. The programme was brilliant too and Harry took it into school to show all his mates"
