City hit form

One team starting to put a run of defeats behind them is Carlisle City, whose 4-2 win at Keswick in the Cumberland Senior Cup on Saturday continued a good run of recent results.

City have now chalked up three straight wins and scored 11 goals, five of them from in-form Rob McCartney, who has scored in each of the three games.

The Cumbrians have a busy and testing schedule in the next couple of weeks with two midweek cup ties against Atherton LR and games against Silsden AFC and Whitchurch Alport, but they will head into the games with a full head of steam.

Back after the break

One result at the weekend that few would have predicted as the half time results came in was Litherland REMYCA's 6-0 home win over Holker Old Boys.

The game was goalless at the break, but Remy fairly ramped it up in the second half once David Crist broke the deadlock soon after the restart.

Stats for the season so far show that Remy have scored more goals in the second half of games than they have in the first - future opponents need to take note.

Dale warning for opposing defences

One man in hot goalscoring form at the moment is Dale Korie-Butler of Ashton Athletic, who continued his recent hot streak with both goals in the Yellows 2-0 win at Abbey Hey on Saturday.

That took his tally to nine goals in the last four league games, and 14 for the season in total, playing a significant part in a campaign that has seen the Yellows lose just once in the league so far, and enjoy success in cup competitions.

Opposition defences will need to be on their guard in the coming weeks when Dale and Athletic come to town.

Gate discover their shooting boots

One team who well and truly turned their recent goalscoring form guide on its head was Squires Gate, who beat AFC Liverpool 5-4 at the Brian Addison Stadium on Saturday.

Prior to Saturday, Gate had scored 10 goals in 11 games, but they boosted their averages in grand style with the latest win, only their second in the league all season.

Now they have rediscovered the habit of hitting the back of the net, the challenge now is to keep it going in the weeks ahead.

Heys back on track

A blip in September after a good start meant that Prestwich Heys lost some of their early season momentum, but Friday night's 4-2 win over Chadderton was the latest proof that Heys appears to have their mojo back.

Five wins and a draw from the last six games, and never scoring less than two goals in any of those games, is form consistent with a side gunning for promotion, and 42 goals in just 13 league games suggests that Heys have the necessary firepower in their armoury to mount a serious challenge at the top this season.
