A fine autumn afternoon provided ideal playing conditions around the league at the weekend, and the movers and shakers at the top of both divisions took full advantage and continued their recent good form.

In the Premier Division, league leaders Runcorn Town had no game, and their inactivity allowed neighbours Runcorn Linnets to move within a point of them at the top of the table with a 1-0 win at Burscough. Mitchell Bryant struck the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute.

Bootle are in third place, nine points off the top, but they could have narrowed the gap a bit more if they hadn't been held to a 4-4 draw at AFC Darwen.

In a remarkable game, doubles from Ryan Cox and Declan Gregson had the Bucks 4-1 up with 18 minutes remaining, but two goals from Sidi Fofana and a last minute equaliser from Adam Douglas rescued a point for the home side.

Hanley Town moved into fourth place after staging a late smash and grab at Padiham. Spencer Jordan had put Padiham ahead with 10 minutes remaining, but goals by Dan Cope in the 85th and the 90th minute pinched a 2-1 win for the visitors.

Charnock Richard are in fifth place but have plenty of games in hand on those above them, and they maintained their recent good form with a 3-1 win at Maine Road. Mark Adams, Carl Grimshaw and Jonathan Hession were on target for Charnock after they had fallen behind early on.

It was a similar story at the St Luke's Barton Stadium, where an early goal from Winsford United's David Short gave the Blues an early lead against West Didsbury & Chorlton, but goals from Ben Steer, Declan Rydings and Tom Bailey eventually saw West to a 3-1 win.

There was another impressive away team comeback at the TDP Solicitors Stadium, where City of Liverpool were two up against Congleton Town, but eventually lost 4-2.

A Luke Denson penalty and a John McGrath goal had given the Purples an advantage, but an own goal gave the Bears a lifeline, and second half strikes from Steve Foster, Emini Adegbenro and Declan Fletcher sealed the win.

The highest scoring game of the day was at the Brian Addison Stadium where Squires Gate eventually won 5-4 in a thriller against AFC Liverpool, Gary Pett scoring twice for Gate, and two second half goals from Dale Korie-Butler were the highlight of Ashton Athletic's 2-0 win at Abbey Hey.

Two second half goals from Kevin Pollard and William Webb ensured a 2-2 draw for Widnes at home to 1874 Northwich, and there were also two second half goals at the Ambitek Stadium with Daniel Johnson and Samuel Fittin on target for Northwich Victoria in the 2-0 win over Irlam.

A goal in each half from Zac Dale helped Barnoldswick Town to a 3-2 win at Barnton.

In the First Division, there seems to be no stopping the Cobbydaler bandwagon as Silsden AFC recorded their 12th straight league with a 5-0 triumph at Eccleshall.

Joseph Gaughan helped himself to a hat trick in a result that maintained the Cobbydalers' eight point lead over Prestwich Heys at the top.

Heys also picked up three points, with a Friday evening 4-2 win over Chadderton, in which Lee Bruce scored twice.

Second half performance of the day came from Litherland REMYCA, whose 6-0 win over Holker Old Boys was notable for the fact that all the goals came in the second half, Matthew Hamilton scoring a hat trick in the space of 19 minutes.

Remy are in third place, and Alsager Town are fourth despite being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Stockport Town. Ryan Goodwin had given the Bullets a half time lead, but goals from Tyler Edwards and Jamie Hinchliffe had Town ahead before an own goal rescued a point for the home side.

First half goals from Nick Marley and Simon Everall kept Whitchurch Alport in fifth place with a 2-0 win over Atherton LR at Yockings Park, and AFC Blackpool moved to within a point of eth play off places with a 3-2 win at St Helens Town. Conah Bishop, Ben Duffield and Stephen Betterridge hit the back of the net for the visitors.

Abbey Hulton United bounced back from a midweek home cup defeat as four different players got on the scoresheet in a 4-1 win over Bacup Borough, and FC Oswestry Town moved off the bottom of the table with a 4-0 win at New Mills, in which Jack Harris scored twice.

Bottom place is now occupied by Daisy Hill, who lost 4-3 at home to Cammell Laird 1907 in a ding-dong affair, Ben Holmes scoring twice for Lairds.

One team, Carlisle City, were in cup action, and two goals from Michael Slack helped them to a 4-2 win at Keswick in the First Round of the Cumberland Senior Cup.
