Another Purples matchday fundraiser

City of Liverpool were delighted to be able to assist one of their supporters groups, 'The Purple Republic', in fundraising for a local charity at the game against Barnton on Saturday 16th September.
'The Purple Republic' consist of Joe Spencer-Welsh, Jennifer Spencer-Welsh, Matthew Spencer, Liam Catling, Mark Thomas, Sean Lindblad and Diego Guerra.
The charity that they were fundraising for, MerseyAid, is an organisation that does a great deal of work not only with refugees and asylum seekers, but also supports those who are homeless, both within the Merseyside area, as well as abroad.
Joe Spencer-Welsh said: "We were able to raise £130 for MerseyAid on the day, and Genna Rourke, the founder of the charity, was absolutely over the moon with the donation, and is really excited about possibly linking up with the club long term".
Gary Johansen, City of Liverpool Media Director added: "The club were only too happy to provide a family bundle of match tickets as well as various items of Purps merchandise to MerseyAid, as a raffle prize for a separate birthday fundraiser celebration. This was won by Nadine Clarke, another founder of the charity, so she is really excited about coming to a future Purps home match with her husband and her 3 children".
Joe said: "Collectively, MerseyAid actually managed to raise a massive amount, totalling £535! This includes their fundraising event on the Saturday evening, with £130 of that coming from the generosity of the COLFC fans at the game, so the club and the supporters should be really proud!"
This was the first bit of charity fundraising that 'The Purple Republic' had organised, and it proved to be very successful. They have plans moving forward to connect and work with and for, other charities that mean a lot to them in a similar regard.
They also run and organise 'Football For Everyone' which is a City of Liverpool FC community team, which provides football training and games for everyone, and is free for refugees, asylum seekers, the homeless and also the unemployed.
Gary added: "The fundraising by The Purple Republic just typifies the spirit, the mindset and the sense of community that our supporters have truly engaged with. Lots of these events and activities are self driven, and they are self driven by individuals and groups who have fully taken on board the essence of what City of Liverpool as a community football club is all about".
