Purples rain goals
We don’t do League team of the week awards, but if we did, there’s little doubt about who would pick up the honours for performances in the past week, as all bets would be off with regards to City of Liverpool.
After putting eight goals past Evo-Stik League opponents Prescot Cables in the FA Cup replay in midweek, the Purples followed that up by scoring five without reply at Maine Road in the League on Saturday.
There’s nothing unlucky about 13 goals in two games against good opposition, and on this form the Purples will take some stopping over the months ahead.
Heys home fortress
On the evidence presented so far, it looks like Prestwich Heys enjoy welcoming visitors to Adie Moran Park.
Three home games, three wins and thirteen goals scored is a decent return by any standards, and with Heys already among the pre-season favourites for a promotion place, the signs are that the predictions have not been misplaced.
If Heys results on the road can be on similar lines to those achieved at home up to now, we can expect to see them among the front runners in Division One over the months ahead.
1874 looking good
Saturday’s win over Padiham meant that 1874 Northwich have now played six games so far this season, and are still unbeaten.
Defensively there’s been a mixed bag, with three clean sheets, but also two other games in which three goals were conceded.
None the less, it’s been a good start for 1874 and their new management team of Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison, and gives them a solid base on which to build a promotion campaign.
A good day for Abbey Hulton United
It’s always good to see a club host its first ever game in our league, and Abbey Hulton United can be more than happy with the way it all went on the day of their inaugural game at Birches Head Road.
A crowd of 158, including many young supporters, created a good atmosphere on a fine sunny afternoon, and they were rewarded with an exciting game that ended 3-3, with Abbey Hulton coming from two goals down to eventually share the points with Stockport Town.
They’ve set the bar high in terms of entertainment and match day experience, so the challenge now for the League new boys to keep up the entertainment value.
First win for Eccleshall
After defeats in their first three games, Eccleshall finally got the winning habit by picking up their first three points with a 3-2 victory at home to St Helens Town on Saturday.
After a tough campaign last season, hopes were high at Pershall Park that this season would deliver more cheer, and now that the first points are on the board, the challenge now is to build on the positives of Saturday’s result and start to move up the Division One table.
