Ties in the Macron Cup Quarter Finals, and important league fixtures at the top and bottom of both divisions provided a fascinating bill of fare at the weekend.

Two First Division clubs have made their way into the Macron Cup Semi-Finals, after emerging victorious from their Quarter Final ties.

Chadderton were pretty much home and hosed by the 36th minute of their game at Nelson, establishing a three goal lead through Leon Kuroe, Tim Astley and Sam Gibson, and although Jay Hart pulled a goal back, Chaddy held on to clinch a 3-1 win.

They are joined in the last four by fellow First Division side City of Liverpool, who progressed thanks to a 2-0 win at Silsden with goals from Elliot Nevitt and John Connolly.

Andrew Hill’s goal on the stroke of half time was enough to earn Barnoldswick Town a 1-0 win at Widnes, and at Brocstedes Park it took extra time to separate Ashton Athletic and Bootle, after the sides were ties at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Samuel Bailey and Christopher Webster had put the home side two up after 25 minutes, but Ben Hodkinson pulled one goal back and Ryan Cox’s 89th minute equaliser took the game to an extra half hour.

James Howell, Josh Hamilton and a second from Ben Hodkinson saw Bootle through to a 5-2 win.

There were a number of eye-catching results in the Premier Division, none more so than at the Pavilions, where Runcorn Town’s 2-1 win over league leaders Atherton Collieries was Colls’ first league defeat since September.

Town’s leading scorer Craig Cairns was the man who made the difference, scoring both goals to move Town into fourth place, six points behind Colls at the top and with a game in hand.

Runcorn Linnets moved into second place after a fine 4-1 win at 1874 Northwich. After going behind to an early Jason Carey goal, Linnets struck four times without reply through Freddie Potter, Kristian Holt, Stuart Wellstead and Zachery Aley to clinch the points.

Congleton Town shared a 2-2 draw at home to Padiham, although goals from Scott McGowan and Paul Bathgate had put them 2-0 up, before James Dean and Mark Coyne struck in the last minutes to rescue a point for the Storks

New Mills enjoyed a much needed 2-1 win over Winsford United at Church Lane, with Nathan Neequaye scoring both goals for the Millers, although they remain ten points away from safety at the bottom of the table.

Elsewhere, two goals from Nic Evangelinos helped West Didsbury & Chorlton to a 3-0 win at Barnton, and second half goals from Daniel Cope, Sean Mountford and Theo Stair gave Hanley Town victory by the same score at home to bottom of the table Cammell Laird 1907.

An entertaining game at the Abbey Stadium eventually saw Abbey Hey emerge with a 3-2 win over Squires Gate, with James Moore scoring the decisive winning goal 11 minutes from time.

In the First Division, Litherland REMYCA remain at the top of the table despite losing 3-2 at home to Charnock Richard, a result that moves Charnock into fourth place.

Ashley Young and Spencer Bibby put Charnock two up after 15 minutes, but a Colin Quirk penalty reduced the arrears before half time.

Jonathan Hession restored the two goal advantage just after the hour mark, and although Colin McDonald converted a penalty two minutes from time, the visitors held on to collect all three points.

Whitchurch Alport remain third after a 3-0 win at home to Bacup Borough in which Simon Everall scored twice, and Alsager Town kept up their promotion campaign with a 2-1 home win over Cheadle Town, Dave Harry and Mark Grice on target for the Bullets.

Daisy Hill shared a 3-3 draw with Sandbach United at New Sirs, Ashley Stott rescuing a point for Daisy with his second goal of the game from the penalty spot, after two goals from Derrece Gardner and one from Ryan Allcock had given the visitors a three-goal lead before the break. United now occupy the last promotion play off position

Prestwich Heys kept up their promotion chase with first half goals from Jamie Baguley and Michael Itela earning them a 2-0 win at Ashton Town.

Second half goals from Daniel Tinsley and Jack Harris ensured FC Oswestry Town picked up all three points in a 2-1 win over Carlisle City at the Venue, and a last minute equaliser from Adam Stubbs earned Stockport Town a point from a 2-2 draw at AFC Blackpool.
