Sharon Cotton - it was with regret that we learned last week of the death of Sharon Cotton, wife of former League Management Committee member John Cotton.

John has been a well known figure around our league for many years, first for his involvement in various roles at Newcastle Town and more recently at Norton United, where he was General Manager when they won the Premier Division title in season 2013-14.

County Cup Semi Finals - Three of our clubs now have dates confirmed for upcoming semi-finals in local county cup competitions.

Wednesday 15th March - Cumberland Senior Cup Semi Final - Penrith v Carlisle City (KO 7.30 pm)

Thursday 16th March - Mid-Cheshire Cup Semi Final - 1874 Northwich v Witton Albion (KO 7.45 pm)

Tuesday 28th March - Liverpool Senior Cup Semi Final - Bootle v Prescot Cables (KO 7.45pm)

TBC - Liverpool Senior Cup Semi Final - Southport v Litherland REMYCA

Atherton Collieries - Colls recently received confirmation from the Lancashire FA that they are now an FA Charter Standard club.

Joseph Gibbons, the club’s Charter Standard co-ordinator said, “It has been a project we have been working on as a club for quite a while now.”

“We originally started off looking at the application a couple of years ago but it came at the wrong time as we had a major transitional period both on and off the field.

“Since then we have been making sure that the many volunteers and coaches at our club are qualified to the accepted standard. Whether this be through coaching badges, first aid training or through safeguarding measures.

“The latter is a really important subject in football at the moment, so we wanted to make sure we are being proactive by appointing a safeguarding and welfare officer while compiling all the relevant paperwork.

“This step puts in a good place if we look to expand the club in coming seasons. If we wish to set up children’s and youth teams we now have processes in order to ensure the safeguarding of our players".

Sandbach United - the club's 14th Annual Football Festival will be held over the weekend of 20th & 21st May 2017 at the Sandbach Community Football Centre, Hind Heath Road, Sandbach CW11 3LZ.

The tournament will be affiliated with the Cheshire F.A. and will be refereed by FA qualified referees.  Teams from Under 7 up to Under 14 can enter, with more details available on the club website.
