After a busy weekend last time out, a number of clubs have been involved in key position changes. The intensity level stays high this weekend with a number of key fixtures taking place around Division One.
Starting with one of the clubs who made one of the more significant moves last weekend and that's Litherland Remyca who get a head start on games this weekend as they travel to The Venue to face FC Oswestry Town on Friday night. Remyca have been really strong of late and travel to The Borderers with five straight wins and unbeaten in eight league games. Phil Stafford's side look real title contenders at the moment and having climbed into second last weekend look the team to beat at the moment. Oswestry will be buoyed by their first win in six last weekend with an impressive 4-0 win over Prestwich Heys, they are pretty decent at home so this looks set to be a cracking game.
Widnes remain in excellent form, however due to their good cup form they are still unable to play some of their games in hand to try and crack the top six open. They welcome AFC Blackpool to the Select Security Stadium in the first of two games in three days ahead of their Liverpool Senior Cup Semi-Final on Monday. AFC Blackpool maybe fairly low down in the table but they have certainly started to find some fight, notable wins against Charnock Richard a few weeks back and an eye catching three points taken against Sandbach United last time out.
Alsager Town host Bacup Borough and have been in solid form of late, their latest result being a 4-2 home win over Daisy Hill last weekend and that sees them with four wins in their last five league games. Due to the other clubs around them also being in equally as good form though they haven't been able to climb too much higher than the current fifth place they currently occupy in the same time frame.
City of Liverpool will be looking to put pressure on the top two as they host Carlisle City. It's the first of two meetings in a week between these two clubs as the fixtures fall back to back. Since funding their feet in the league circa October, City have travelled well, recording some decent wins on the road.
Charnock Richard in fourth host sixth placed Sandbach United at Mossie Park and both clubs will be desperate for the points. Charnock Richard have only one win in their last four league games and looked like strong candidates for automatic promotion up until a few weeks back. Sandbach go into this game with four wins and two defeats from their last six and are in better form. Like with a couple of games this weekend, these two will face each other twice in a week so the destiny of either side could be a lot clearer come a week Sunday.
Stockport Town have looked strong since having to quickly re-group over Christmas and they welcome Silsden to Stockport Sports Village this weekend. Town are actually unbeaten in their last three games, albeit three draws whilst Silsden, also, like their hosts are in mid-table, they go into the game on three straight defeats but are still very capable of reaching the top half with a few consistent games.
St Helens Town host top of the Whitchurch Alport in a game that will be played at Ashton Town this Saturday. St Helens are currently in tenth but a win and some help with results elsewhere could get them to within two places of the top six. Alport by their own high standards have slipped a bit in the form table and travel to Ashton with a win, draw and defeat in their last three games and are only four points ahead of Litherland Remyca in the title race. This looks a fascinating tie and a neutrals temptation.
Prestwich Heys welcome Holker Old Boys to Adie Moran Park for the first competitive meeting of these sides at this level, a bit like a bus, you wait ages for one and two come along almost at once as these sides will reverse the fixture in a fortnight. Four points separate these clubs in mid-table but a win for Heys could keep alive their feint play-off hopes.
Cheadle Town and Daisy Hill are also in mid-table, they go head to head this weekend but go into this game in vastly different form. Daisy are without a win since early December but improving Cheadle have only one defeat in their last five games and that was to promotion chasing Sandbach.
Eccleshall gave their survival hopes a massive boost last weekend with a vital 2-1 win over fellow strugglers, Atherton LR. Chadderton are the visitors there this weekend and with a potential escape of the bottom two within sight as well as a swift return fixture against LR the following week there is fresh belief at Pershall Park. Chadderton are full of belief themselves following lastbweeks eye catching 3-0 win over league leaders, Whitchurch Alport. All to play for as they say!
