There’s a full complement of games in Division 1 this weekend and the tastiest of the lot must be the Merseyside derby that sees Bootle based pair, City Of Liverpool and Litherland REMYCA, facing each other at the Delta Taxi Stadium.
This will be the third meeting between the clubs this season. In the first clash Remyca knocked the ‘Purples’ out of the FA Vase in the First Qualifying Round at the Delta Taxi Stadium on the 11th September by a single goal to nil.
However, exactly one month later on the 12thOctober, City Of Liverpool took all three points with a fine 3-2 victory at the Litherland Sports Park. This one could go either way with both sides flying high at the top end of the table. There is guaranteed to be another healthy return at the gate.
Another’ six-pointer, but this time at the other end of the table, sees Atherton Laburnum Rovers take on fellow struggles Eccleshall at Crilly Park.
Both are in desperate need of points with the next to the bottom Staffordshire side eager to catch up on Rovers who are one place above them. Home advantage may just be enough to see Rovers pull further away from their nearest rivals in distress. This will be the first meeting between the clubs this term.
League leaders Whitchurch Alport look to have a tough assignment at Chadderton who are a much better side than their lowly position in the table suggests.
Chaddy will be keen to reverse the 0-3 defeat they suffered at Yokings Park back on the first day of October, but they are up against a team who will be equally keen to obtain the three points in order to keep ahead of the chasing pack in Division 1.
Fourth placed Charnock Richard will be hoping to get back on track at home against visitors Stockport Town after losing four of their last six games at Mossie Park in league and cup.
Their Cheshire guests, who will be visiting Charter Lane for the very first time, will be hoping to continue their recovery after suffering a blow just prior to the Festive Season when losing their manager and most of their squad.
New boss, David Wild, has been tasked with keeping the ‘Lions’ in the hunt. He will have his side well prepared for their visit to Mossie Park.
Two promotion chasers who are presently on the fringes, FC Oswestry Town and Prestwich Heys, meet at the impressive Venue arena.
The Shropshire outfit will be eager to avenge the 2-5 reverse they suffered at Aide Moran Park just before Christmas, in a fixture which kick-started a four-game losing streak which saw them concede a total of 17 goals which included two heavy home defeats against Charnock Richard on the 17th December and Sandbach Town New Years Eve.
However, Prestwich Heys could just inflict a little more pain on their hosts. Both sides will be looking forward to getting back into action after their respective games last weekend fell foul of the weather.
Another team homing in on the top grouping is the in-form Widnes who will be travelling over to West Yorkshire to face Silsden who have struggled a little following relegation from the Premier Division at the end of last season.
The Yorkshiremen however, will not be in any mood to hand over the three points without a fight and it is one of those games where the outcome will be very hard to predict. Indeed, it should prove to be a very intriguing fixture down at Keighley Road.
Top five side, Alsager Town, are hoping to stay in touch with the leading pack in Division 1 when they take on Daisy Hill at the Woodpark Stadium but will have to work hard against the Westhoughton based outfit who are looking to improve on their 12th place finish last term.
St Helens Town play host to form team AFC Blackpool, who have shown a marked improvement recently having won two and drawn one of their last four outings; including impressive wins at highfliers Charnock Richard and at home to promotion chasers Sandbach United.
Sandbach will be looking to get back on track at home to Cheadle Town after the 1-2 defeat at ‘Mechanics’ last weekend, whilst Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten sequence to five games on the bounce after winning three and drawing one of their previous four games.
Holker Old Boys look set to heap more misery upon basement side Ashton Town this Saturday at Rakesmoor after Town suffered their 20th defeat of the campaign last weekend in Shropshire to league Leaders Whitchurch Alport.
The Cumbrians will be galvanised following a fine win at Crilly Park in their last outing when overcoming Atherton Laburnum Rovers by the only goal of the game. Inconsistency has plagued the Old Boys throughout the campaign and a good run of results could see them climb into a more comfortable mid table position although they are well clear of the relegation dog fight.
Ashton are not as bad a side as their record this season suggests, but the Edge Green Street outfit are finding it very difficult to get into the winning mode.
Mid table sides Bacup Borough and ‘new boys’ Carlisle City meet at West View in a game that could go either way. The sides shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate on the 20th August at Gillford Park, but City have faired better since then and ten points and six places separate them in the table as we move towards the end of January.
Boro’ could make home advantage count and they need too in order to climb away from the impending clamour at the wrong end of the table and avoid being sucked into dreaded drop zone.
