The mild December weather allowed another full programme of fixtures, which delivered 106 goals from the games across both divisions.

In the Premier Division, the eye catching game of the day matched up to expectations, with 1874 Northwich inflicting a 3-2 defeat on Runcorn Town at the St Luke’s Barton Stadium.

The victory means that just five points separate Town at the top of the table and 1874 in fifth place, and in a ding dong affair a Tom Bailey penalty and a Scott McGowan goal gave the Greens a two goal lead at the break.

But two goals from Craig Cairns brought Town back level, before McGowan’s second goal of the game five minutes from time clinched victory for Ian Street’s men.

Bootle are in second place, two points behind Runcorn Town after an emphatic 7-1 win at AFC Darwen, Josh Hamilton grabbing a hat trick in a game where the Bucks were five up after 43 minutes.

Runcorn Linnets are third after a 4-0 win at home to New Mills, Antony Hickey scoring twice, and Atherton Collieries are fourth following their 3-0 win over Hanley Town at the Kensite Stadium, in which Jordan Cover scored twice.

The highest scoring game in the division was at Squires Gate where the home side lost out by the odd goal in nine against AFC Liverpool. Jack Leamey and Connor Belger both scored twice for the Reds, while the home side’s Ric Seear can consider himself unfortunate to have ended up on the losing side after scoring a hat trick.

Abbey Hey gained revenge for their midweek cup defeat on penalties at Barnoldswick Town by emerging with a 2-0 in the league encounter at the Abbey Stadium, George Noon scoring both goals in the second half.

Irlam’s first ever visit to Ashton Athletic’s Brocstedes Park proved to be an enjoyable experience as they bagged a 3-1 win after going a goal down, and Padiham continued their recent good form with a 4-1 win over Maine Road at the YESSS Electrical Arena.

West Didsbury & Chorlton celebrated their annual Christmas Miracle event in style with a 4-2 win over Winsford United, and a James Pointon penalty 12 minutes from time sealed Congleton Town’s 1-0 win over bottom of the table Cammell Laird 1907.

Two goals from Jason McShane helped Barnton to come from behind to earn a share of the points in a 3-3 draw at home to Nelson.

In the First Division, City of Liverpool FC moved back to the top of the table after a 6-1 win at home to Holker Old Boys. Allen Weston and John Connolly both scored twice for the Purples.

Whitchurch Alport drop into second place after having to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw at Litherland REMYCA. A 90th minute equaliser from Colin McDonald snatched a point for Remy.

Charnock Richard remain third after a 3-0 win at home to bottom of the table Ashton Town, although it took until the stroke of half time before Mark Adams broke the deadlock for the home side. A Spencer Bibby penalty and a further goal from Carl Grimshaw early in the second half put the game beyond the visitors.

Alsager Town kept up the pressure on the top three with a 6-1 win at home to AFC Blackpool, Taylor Attrell scoring twice for the Bullets, and Sandbach United held on to the final play off spot with a 2-1 win at Silsden thanks to goals from Aaron Knight and Josh Lane.

Widnes remain two points off the play off places but kept up their recent good form with a 3-0 win over Atherton LR. Regular goalscorers George Lomax and Kevin Towey once again hit the back of the net for Joey Dunn’s side.

A second half hat trick from Paul Tierney helped Prestwich Heys to a 5-2 win over FC Oswestry Town at Adie Moran Park, and in a thriller at Andrew Street, Chadderton won 5-4 against Daisy Hill.

It was 4-4 after 63 minutes, with James Curley having scored two penalties for Chaddy and Ashley Stott also scoring twice for Daisy, but the winner from Brian Totton secured the points for the home side with ten minutes to go.

Elsewhere, Carlisle City needed a last minute winner from David Wallace to earn a 2-1 win over Cheadle Town at Gillford Park, Nathan Neequaye struck twice in Stockport Town’s 3-2 win at Eccleshall, and St Helens Town won 2-0 at home to Bacup Borough.
