The heat continues to turn up in Division One this Saturday as no less than 14 teams lock horns with one another.
As the matches pile up thick and fast for many in the division, there is time for teams to capitalise on those who are in FA Vase action.
Charnock Richard lead the way at the top but Whitchurch Alport will have their eyes on top spot come Saturday evening.
There are also battles at the bottom of the table as well as mid-table clashes including FC Oswestry Town vs Daisy Hill, and Bacup Borough vs St Helens Town.
The stand out fixture of the weekend sees third placed City of Liverpool host fourth placed Alsager Town at the Delta Taxi Stadium. The Merseyside club will once again be looking to pull in a big crowd as a positive result for them could see them go top.
Town travel to Liverpool on the back of three wins in their last four matches, most recently seeing off Ashton Town 3-1 at home on Tuesday night. An away win for Alsager could see them leapfrog their opponents and cut the gap to Charnock and Whitchurch at the top.
Lingering just outside the play off places, Prestwich Heys make the short trip to Cheadle Town at Park Road, as the hosts look to make it three matches unbeaten in a row following a win at Atherton LR and Wednesday night’s 3-3 draw against Litherland Remyca.
Heys made it four wins from four following their 5-0 midweek triumph over Bacup Borough, and the Greater Manchester outfit have found the back of the net 12 times in the last four matches, with 10 different goalscorers in those four matches, proving there are goals all over the pitch for Prestwich.
Second placed Whitchurch Alport take on Silsden at Keighley Road Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they look to reclaim top spot with Charnock Richard in FA Vase action.
James Gill’s Silsden have hit a rough patch in recent weeks following a great start to their league campaign, and the club will be looking to surprise Alport and avoid a fifth straight league defeat before a run of three straight cup matches.
Whitchurch have been on form since the start of the season and have seven wins in their last nine outings, including a whopping 23 goals throughout that period. Saturday’s visitors recently brushed aside Eccleshall in a 5-0 mauling on Wednesday evening.
Carlisle City, sitting 15th in the league, play host to Sandbach United, who currently occupy the final playoff place, at Gillford Park Stadium this weekend.
Carlisle have hit a run of form this month and James Tose’s side have won four of their last five matches, scoring six in their last two games against St Helens Town and Silsden respectively.
Meanwhile Sandbach, who have been holding off Prestwich and keeping ahold of their playoff place, are on the road once again this Saturday following last weekend’s 2-0 victory away at Bacup Borough. A win for United could see them jump up to 5th position and create a gap between themselves and those outside the playoff places.
FC Oswestry Town return to The Venue as they welcome Daisy Hill to Shropshire in a mid-table clash that sees 10th take on 14th. A win for either side win see them rise up the table, with three points for Oswestry bringing them closer to the playoffs.
Daisy Hill were on the right end of a seven goal thriller on Monday night when they hosted Stockport Town, however they will be aware of Oswestry’s struggles at home having seen the club win just one of their six fixtures at home.
With a big clash at the top and a battle in the middle, there’s still room for a tussle at the bottom of the table as AFC Blackpool welcome Eccleshall to The Mechanics Ground on the west coast.
This season has seen both sides struggle to find a run of form and Stuart Parker’s Blackpool haven't won a match since August, a record his side will be looking to turn around when Eccleshall visit on Saturday afternoon.
Much like The Mechanics, Eccleshall have failed to repeat last season’s efforts on the pitch and are currently on a five match losing streak. Jim Leech’s side will be clinging to the hope that they can repeat the away success from Cheadle Town last month, a result that saw them come out 5-3 winners.
With both defences leaking goals throughout the campaign so far, Saturday afternoon could see goals galore at The Mechanics Ground.
The final fixture of the weekend sees Bacup Borough entertain St Helens Town at Brian Boys West View Stadium with Bacup hoping to end their poor form that has seen them their last three on the bounce.
Brent Peters’ side were unlucky to miss out on the Second Round of the Reusch First Division Cup after falling 2-1 after extra time at home to Chadderton last Saturday.
St Helens arrive at Bacup following a mixed run of form since the start of the season, which has seen them most recently score nine goals in their last four league matches, and yet they only came away with three points from a possible 12.
The Saints will be looking to the positives of still being able to score goals when they make the trip on Saturday, having seen Bacup go without scoring in their last two league games. An away win for the visitors could see them leapfrog Borough and rise five places to 12th in Division One.
Once again this weekend’s fixture just goes to show just what this league has to offer, that despite the FA Vase being in town, there are still plenty of mouth-watering clashes to keep a look out for. Come Saturday evening the First Division table could see some big moves, and possibly even a new league leader.
