With eleven Premier Division clubs in FA Cup action this Saturday, the Premier Division fixture list has a somewhat depleted look to it.

Even though there are only five fixtures scheduled to take place - fear not - this weekend sees some mouth-watering action including the small matter of a Runcorn Derby.

That is where we kick off this weekend’s preview, and a big crowd is expected at Pavilions on Saturday as Runcorn Town welcome local rivals Runcorn Linnets.

Both sides come into the game on the back of mid-week defeats. Chris Herbert’s Town side were on the wrong side of a seven goal thriller against Congleton Town on Wednesday. Despite taking a 3-1 lead at one point in the game, two late Brian Matthews goals handed the Bears victory.

Meanwhile Linnets lost 2-0 at home to Winsford United. Michael Ellison’s side are without a win so far this season, after bowing out of the FA Cup against Hemsworth Miners Welfare before drawing 2-2 with West Didsbury and Chorlton in their first league game of the season.

Town will be hoping for a change of fortune against their local rivals as they lost both league derbies last season.

AFC Darwen will be looking to bounce back after suffering a humiliating 7-0 defeat at home to Barnoldswick Town on Wednesday. Adam Douglas’s side are yet to register a win this season and welcome AFC Liverpool to the WEC Group Anchor Ground on Saturday.

Kevin Dally’s side had to settle for a point on Tuesday evening away at Irlam, in a game where new singing Freddie Potter got his first for his new club. Dally’s side did, however, pick up all 3 points last Saturday when they beat Barnoldswick Town 5-2.

Elsewhere this weekend, Irlam welcome Barnoldswick Town to The Ambitek Stadium. Steve Nixon’s side come into the game with an unbeaten record in the league. Having kicked off their campaign with a win over Bootle, draws with both Padiham and AFC Liverpool have followed.

Meanwhile Stewart Airdrie’s side will arrive in Manchester full of confidence after Wednesday night’s 7-0 win over AFC Darwen. The emphatic win was the perfect response from Airdrie’s side after last weekend’s defeat at AFC Liverpool.

Two new boys in the Hallmark Security Premier Division meet on Saturday, as New Mills welcome Barnton to Church Lane.

Steve Lloyd’s Black and Whites will arrive in Derbyshire full of confidence after their 1-0-win midweek win over Cammell Laird 1907 - the victory was the club’s second in the division after a 1-0 over Ashton Athletic in their opening game of the season.

Meanwhile Garry Brown will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways after suffering a 2-1 defeat away at 1874 Northwich on Tuesday. Prior to that, The Millers collected their first win of the new season with a 4-3 victory over Cammell Laird 1907 last Saturday.

Finally, to wrap up this weekend preview, Hanley Town welcome Abbey Hey to Abbey Lane. Dean Owen’s side collected their first win of the season on Tuesday night picking up a 2-1 win away at Maine Road. The game saw new recruit Jonny Higham make his debut, and score Town’s equaliser.

Hey meanwhile, arrive in Staffordshire looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a 3-0 defeat at home to Padiham on Tuesday.

Ashford Blake did, however, net a double in a 2-0 opening game win against Winsford United, and manager Luke Gibson will no doubt be looking to his experienced front-man to add to his tally.

Despite the depleted fixture list there is still plenty of football on offer in your Hallmark Security Premier Division football this weekend.

Wherever you go, enjoy it and don’t forget to pick up your ground hopper sticker book.
