PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION – JASON HART OF COLNE

Of the eight games Colne played in March they won seven and drew one. This sensational form coincided with Jason Hart hitting another purple patch, playing 8 games, scored 7 goals and he scored in 6 of the games as well as earning 3 man of the match nominations.

In the match away at Runcorn Town, Colne won 2-1 and although he drew a blank in this game Jason won the man of the match nomination, for his work in linking up well with the other Reds attackers, and his pace constantly stretched the home defence.

In the game against Barnoldswick Town, with the Reds holding a one goal lead Jason produced a fantastic overhead kick to send the ball in the bottom corner and open up clear day light between the teams, in a game that Colne eventually won 4-0, and Jason worked his socks off in support of the rest of the team and again used his pace to great effect.

Jason then scored both goals in the 2-0 home win over AFC Blackpool in the MEN United Cup semi-final, the first a penalty which he chipped down the centre as the keeper dived to his right, and after Colne had been reduced to 10 men Jason scored a crucial second goal when he volleyed home a low cross at the far post. His all-round performance won him another man of the match nomination.

Next up, he scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win at Nelson in the Pendle derby clash. It was a game that produced very few goalscoring chances, but Jason took one late in the first half running onto a through ball, outpacing the defence and chipping over the outrushing keeper.

The only game in the month that Colne didn’t win was the home game against 1874 Northwich that ended 1-1, but Jason was on target once more in another tight game when he ran onto a brilliant through ball and calmly slotted past the keeper. He was also extremely unlucky in the last 10  minutes when his lob from the edge of the area crashed against the bar with the keeper beaten.

Jason continued his goalscoring form in the next game, a 5-0 home win over Alsager Town. After being denied on three minutes by a fine save from the keeper, Jason gave the Reds the lead when a well constructed move released him in the area and he scored via the upright.

He didn’t hit the back of the net in the 2-1 away win at Barnoldswick Town, but in a keenly fought derby his willingness to run the channels stretched the home defence, creating space for the other attacking options.

Jason rounded off a fine month with another man of the match award, and a goal and an assist in the 2-1 home win over Silsden. He scored early in the game when released into the area and deftly lifted the ball into the far corner, and then turned provider as he powered to the goal line and saw his fine low cross converted into the bottom corner by Chris Anderson.

In addition to his football form, Jason also took to the boxing ring during March in an amateur event to raise money for Cancer Research, rounding off an impressive sporting month.

DIVISION ONE – MICHAEL SHERRINGTON OF CHEADLE TOWN

Michael joined Cheadle Town in February for his first spell in semi-professional football following a successful Sunday League career. Cheadle had been in search of regular goalscorer for some time and may have found that player in the shape of the player who is now known as ‘Shezza’.

Five goals in three games for the month of February showed the Football Club how well Michael could adapt to semi-professional football and it was pleasing for everyone that he took that form into the month of March. He continued his rich vein of form with three goals in four games during the month of March.

This included a brace of goals in the impressive 6-3 victory at Eccleshall and he added to his tally in the loss to Irlam towards the end of the month.

Michael has a host of skills in his locker and his pace certainly has caused the opposition defence problems throughout the game. Michael is true striker, which was evident in the goal he scored against Irlam as he latched onto a through ball, beat a defender and placed the ball past the keeper in true Ian Rush style.

Michael, who is the younger brother of Christopher who recently joined Stockport Town, has certainly settled into the side well and has been a great addition to the squad, with the team adapting well to the pace and skills that he offers the front line of attack.

Cheadle Town will certainly be looking to Michael to continue his goalscoring form in the final run games of the season, as Cheadle Town look to clinch a play-off position.

GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION – HAYDEN BUCKLEY-SMITH OF WEST DIDSBURY & CHORLTON

March was a superb month for Hayden as he kept four clean sheets in five games, as well as saving a penalty, and earning himself a man of the match award away to his former club Runcorn Town.

Against Winsford United he was called into action in the air several times against a side looking to test his catching ability, and earned his first clean sheet of the month. He followed this up with a second clean sheet, and was called into action to make several important saves early on in West's 4-0 win over Bootle.

Hayden became busier as the month wore on, as he saved a brilliant penalty against Abbey Hey with the scores 2-0, only to be let down by his team mates by not following for the rebound. It was Hayden's third penalty save this season in the league, and he made several excellent stops during the game.

His biggest performance came away to Runcorn Linnets, and he won the plaudits of the opposition supporters on social media after the game. His two biggest moments came as he first pushed away a 25 yard Kyle Hamid volley round the post, before saving a point blank range header from Ryan Cox.  He was the busier of the two keepers as he must have claimed a dozen crosses on a low and bobbly surface, often diving at the feet of his opponents.

Hayden rounded off March with another clean sheet and a man of the match award as he faced his former club Runcorn Town, it was a big night for Hayden and he was called on to make three big saves early on.

Whilst West were arguably the better team in the game, he rescued a point late on twice, as he was forced into point blank saves from Paul Shanley, arguably the best player in the league.

DIVISION ONE – RICHIE MOTTRAM OF BARNTON

Richie played a vital role in an unbeaten league month for the Villagers, that saw them maintain their promotion hopes and clinch a place in the final of the Reusch First Division Challenge Cup.

He kept three clean sheets in six games, only conceded three goals in the other three games, and also made two saves in the penalty shoot out against Stockport Town to help clinch a place in the cup final.

Against Atherton Collieries in the MEN United Cup semi-final, he made an unbelievable one handed save to prevent Colls taking a 2-0 lead, and also turned in a great display in the league game against Atherton LR, when he made a couple of one on one saves to keep his clean sheet intact.

Richie is always reliable when called upon, and is comfortable when coming to claim high balls. He is  a great voice and commander of his area and has great distribution, his ability to start attacks contributing to several goals during the month.
