Ashton Athletic's Under 18 side captured their third County Cup in succession when they lifted the Lancashire FA Under 18 Youth Cup on Sunday.

In a game played at the County Ground in Leyland, the young Yellows beat Elton Vale 1-0 in the final, with a goal scored by Ryan Smith from a Dec McLoughlin free kick in the first half.

It was the latest in an impressive run of performances from the team, who beat the Under 18 sides from Barrow, AFC Fylde and Padiham on the way to the final, and as Ashton Athletic Press Officer Chris Picton explained, the team have well and truly got the winning habit in County Cup competitions.

"What makes it special is that it is the third consecutive win for these lads, as they won the Lancashire County Cup at Under 15's, then Under 16's and now Under 18's, with the majority of the squad still eligible to play next season.

"Of course, all the club are very proud of their achievements, and we feel it will take some doing to be equalled by any team in the future. The future is bright for the Young Yellows".
