We may be into April, but the postponements keep on coming, with seven games falling victim to the rain that hit the North West on Friday night and Saturday morning.

None the less, those games that survived still provided moves at the top and bottom of both divisions, as we enter the closing weeks of the season.

In the Premier Division, it was a good day for Runcorn Linnets, who extended their lead at the top of the table with a 5-1 win at home to AFC Blackpool, while rivals Colne lost 3-2 at Bootle.

Linnets established a 3-1 lead by half time, with a goal from Mark Houghton and a double from Kyle Hamid, and Michael Ellison and Freddie Potter added two more in the second half for a win that moves them eight points clear at the top of the table, and keeps AFC Blackpool in the relegation zone, albeit with games in hand on those above them.

It was a bad afternoon for Colne, who missed two penalties in the 3-2 defeat at Bootle. Goals from Joseph Peacock and Michael Ordish in the six minutes before the break, either side of a fine save from Bootle keeper Ryan Jones from Jason Hart's spot kick, gave Bootle a two goal lead which was extended by a third goal from Steven Hoy on 58 minutes.

Lee Pugh and Spencer Jordan struck twice for Colne in the space of two minutes midway through the second half, but Dean Stott became the second Colne player to be denied by Bootle keeper Jones, who made a second penalty save late in the game.

The outstanding team and individual performance of the day came at the YESSS Electrical Arena where 1874 Northwich beat Padiham 7-0, with striker Matthew Beadle scoring five goals, four in the first half. Stuart Wellstead scored the other two goals for the Greens.

The other games in the Premier Division all had an impact in the relegation battle, and Silsden remain at the bottom of the table after going down 3-1 at Maine Road.

Matthew Wilson and Martin Hill gave Road a half time lead, and although Daniel Riley pulled a goal back for Silsden on the hour, Michael Burke wrapped up the points for Road with a third goal on the stroke of full time.

AFC Darwen remain just above the relegation zone after going down 2-0 at Congleton Town, and Squires Gate are four points above them after a 0-0 home draw against Abbey Hey.

In the First Division, league leaders Hanley Town's game at Holker Old Boys was postponed, and Irlam took advantage of Barnton's 0-0 draw at home to Daisy Hill, by moving five points clear of them in second place with a 2-0 win over St Helens Town at Silver Street.

Goals in each half from Matty Boland and Jordan Southworth sealed the win for Steve Nixon's side.

Litherland REMYCA's hopes of making the play offs received a setback when they lost 5-0 at home to Eccleshall, Angelo Errico grabbing a hat trick for the visitors.

Bacup Borough kept their hopes of a play-off place alive with a 5-1 win at Whitchurch Alport, Matthew Gervin scoring twice, and Ronnie McCarthy scored twice for Widnes in the 4-1 win over Atherton LR at the Select Security Stadium.
