Barnton have announced the appointment of Leon Knight as their new First Team Manager.

32 year old Leon played for fifteen different clubs across five countries during his professional career, beginning at Chelsea, and spent three years with Brighton and Hove Albion, scoring 30 goals in 106 league matches.

He took charge of the Barnton side at Atherton LR recently, steering them to a 3-0 win and having taking over the reins permanently, he has appointed former Barnton manager Andy Burgess as his new assistant, and current captain Colin Quirk has been promoted to First Team Coach, in a new look set up.

Leon said: "It's a wonderful club run the right way. To be given this opportunity is massive for me and I will grab it with both hands.

"I've chosen Andy Burgess and Colin Quirk as my back room staff for many reasons.  I've known Andy a long time so I know what he brings to the table and I've struck up a relationship with Colin that we cemented over the last few months, and he plays his football the right way.

"I will give 100% and be at every single training session and match and be 1 million per cent committed to this club and to these lads.  This is also an opportunity for players who haven't previously been involved to impress us and claim a shirt.

"I’d like to add a thanks to all of the players for their messages of support, but the work starts now!  I’ll be looking to add just one or two players to what we have here, with maybe a very well-known face joining the club this week".

Barnton Chairman Ian Ross said:  "I couldn’t be happier with this appointment.  Since Leon’s been at the club he’s been a breath of fresh air. I half expected some big-time Charlie when he signed in truth, but he’s as far removed from that type of character as you're likely to meet.

"Although signed as a player, Leon’s knowledge of the game has seen him develop seamlessly into his previous role at the club.  When I spoke to Leon about taking on this vacancy, his response was instant despite the position he found himself in.

"I’m 100% certain he will bring lots of positives to the club, and the lads here I’m sure will all develop further under his stewardship  Leon knows what he wanted from the off, and in Andy and Colin, I know he has lads around him that will serve him and the club fantastically well".
