League newcomers Barnton have announced the appointment of Andy Burgess as their new first team manager.

Andy takes over the reins from Ian Ross, who will continue in his role as club Chairman.

Former Rushden & Diamonds, Oxford United & Luton Town player Burgess is making his first foray into management with Barnton, in their inaugural season in the NWCFL.

He said: "I am honoured and privileged to have been offered the position of Manager of Barnton AFC. From the outset, I have been very impressed with the ambition and vision of the Chairman and I feel with the club stepping up into the North West Counties League, this is the start of an exciting new era at Barnton.

"Although this is my first position as a Manager of a club, I have gained vast experience throughout my playing and coaching career, and I am indebted to Ian Ross & the club Committee for handing me this fantastic opportunity as a number one.

"The hard work starts now, and my focus is fully on progressing the club through this exciting period."

Chairman Ian Ross added: “Andy is starting out in the Management game, and here at Barnton he will be given every opportunity to express himself and mould the team based on his own style and ethics.

"I’m sure all of the lads already at the club are as excited as me by his arrival, and I’m positive that Andy and his team will add new dimensions to all of their games. He was the outstanding candidate and we are delighted to have him on board".
