Update On Step 7 Applications For Promotion

The FA has now advised Step 5/6 leagues of the list of Step 7 clubs that applied for promotion to Step 6 by the closing date of 31st December.

As previously mentioned on the League website, Barnton from the Cheshire League and Liverpool County Premier League club Litherland Remyca have applied to join a Step 6 League, and if successful they would be allocated by the FA to the NWCFL.

There are also two other applications from clubs on the FA list which could be of interest to our League.

Uttoxeter Town from the Staffordshire Senior League have applied, and they have already had an advisory ground grading visit from our League’s Ground Grading Committee. However, although the Staffordshire Senior League is a recognised contributory League to the NWCFL, the location of Uttoxeter means that there is no guarantee the club would be placed in our League if their application was successful.

The town lies just under 20 miles south of Stoke-on-Trent, with Derby 20 miles to the east. The nearest NWCFL ground to their Oldfields Sports Club ground in Uttoxeter is Hanley Town’s Abbey Lane, which is 18 miles to the North, a mile nearer to Uttoxeter than Community Drive in Smallthorne, home of Norton United. Eccleshall is 22 miles across country to the West, and Leek is one mile further away to the North East.

One other interesting possibility is the application from Field AFC of the West Yorkshire League Premier Division. The club play at the Field Sports and Social Club which is located about 4 miles off the M62 on the west side of Bradford.

Although it may be a more obvious move to look towards the Northern Counties East League as a home for the club, most clubs playing in that league are based east of Leeds and in the Nottinghamshire or Humberside area.

With the Field Sports and Social Club being around 14 miles from Silsden, 24 miles from Colne and 28 miles from Barnoldswick and Rochdale, as well as being easily accessible from the Greater Manchester area via the M62, a place in the NWCFL for the club is not infeasible, especially as Bradford Park Avenue played in our League in the past.

However, it’s the FA who will decide which leagues the successful Step 7 clubs will play in, so we await their decisions over the coming months, once the ground grading inspections have been carried out.
