1874 Northwich’s Community Projects Coordinator Tony Rogers has organised a 27 mile blindfolded sponsored charity challenge next month.

On the 19th October Tony, who is a retired British soldier, and other 1874 Northwich fans will be taking part in the event at Marbury Country Park in Northwich. The event will sponsor three challenges, each one demanding a different level of fitness and ability.

The aim of the event is to walk 18 laps of a 1.5 mile circuit, with the objective of raising awareness and funds for ‘Blind Veterans UK’ and ‘Guide Dogs For The Blind’.

Tony explained: “These two charities have been chosen to primarily reflect the connections and relationships between Military and Civilian organisations and how they collaborate to achieve shared goals.

“In particular, it’s hoped to highlight the difficulties blind and partially sighted people undertake on a daily basis. The challenge is expected to be physically demanding, mentally challenging and emotionally draining, with over 10 hours of blind walking - plenty of time to reflect on the gift of sight that so many of us take for granted.

“The only difference being that at the end of the event we take our blindfolds off”.

Also, on the 28th September at the Barton Stadium, prior to the 1874 Northwich v Formby game, representatives from both charities will be present, carrying out training requirements and awareness sessions, hopefully with some pre-match fan interaction.
