Sat 7th March 2020 | General | By Tom Besford
The third game of the afternoon on the 2020 Groundhop and the days total goals were doubled from six to twelve as Stockport Town hammered Cheadle Heath Nomads.
The game was just two minutes old when the visitors took the lead as Stockport’s Jardel Depieza beat the offside trap. One on one with the home keeper the striker calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors doubled their lead ten minutes later as Tyler Ferguson received the ball just inside of the box and fired into the back of the net.
The day was only to get worse for Nomads as they conceded twice more in the space of a minute. Firstly in the nineteenth minute a shot by Adam Freeman deflected into the path of Chris Middleton who had a simple tap in at the post. A minute later and it was four as Depieza tucked the ball through Aaron Tyrer’s legs and into the net.
The hosts had to battle hard in the second half if they wanted to get anything out of the game and they managed to get a goal back ten minutes into the half. The ball made its way through to Kyle Foley who just had the keeper to beat. Foley perfectly lobbed Andrei Stinca in the visiting goal arguably scoring goal of the day in the process.
It proved only to be a consultation goal however as midway through the half Ashley Crank accidentally knocked the ball past his keeper leaving Depieaza with a open goal for his hat trick.
Stockport almost got a sixth with the final kick of the game as Gavin Salmon took a free kick from the edge of the box. Salmon beat the keeper but could only watch as his shot bounced down off the bar and out again.
Two teams who came into the game in tenth and eleventh place provided the Groundhoppers with six goals and lots to talk about.
