Fri 3rd January 2020 | Match Previews | By Craig Kendall
All 20 NWCFL First Division North sides are in action on Saturday - and with just over half the season now concluded, the league is still wide open.
League leaders Lower Breck make the 63.4-mile trip East to visit Shelley and without a win in their last three games - they will be hopeful find the form that has seen them open up an 8 point gap at the summit. Shelley will be looking at making it three wins on the bounce and are eyeing up one of the promotion spots on offer.
Second place AFC Liverpool face a tough away day to AFC Darwen, with both sides knowing how important a win will be, whilst Emley AFC, hot on their heels in third spot, host Cumbrian side Holker Old Boys at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.
Strugglers Bacup Borough are winless since the end of November and Brent Peters side will be hoping to put that right as they fifth place Ashton Town come to town. Lee Bignell and Karl Bell's side will be full of confidence following their win last weekend against Pilkington.
Whilst, Chadderton host Cleator Moor Celtic - a game which pits 17th against 10th, however with just two points separating the teams in the standings, David Fish will be hoping to galvanise his side to all three points.
A real battle is on the cards at Daisy Hill as they welcome AFC Blackpool to St James Street. Daisy occupy the last promotion spot, but a win for Martin Baird's side lifts them above Brian Harts team - let battle commence!
A win for Garstang on Saturday against Nelson would see Richard Cookney's outfit move swiftly up the table, and with maximum points from their previous two games, their certainly will be a belief in the camp when they welcome the Lancashire outfit.
Pilkington and Atherton LR are separated by only one point in the standings - a real six-pointer at this vital stage of the season, which is the same situation at Prestwich Heys as they welcome Golcar United who are 12th and 15th respectively.
Lastly, Roy Mason's side are in a real fight at the bottom of the table, but seven points in December has lifted spirits at Cougar Park, and as they host St Helens Town knowing that a win could lift them off the foot of the table, little motivation will be required. But St Helens will be a tough task, and last Saturday's win against Chadderton shows just what David Platt's side can produce on the day.
