The 2020 calendar year is now upon us, and the footballing action returns after a midweek break.

The NWCFL Premier Division weekend starts on Friday evening, as Bootle host Squires Gate at the Berry Street Garage Stadium. Joe Doran's side know that a positive result will propel them into second, and depending on Charnock's result, they could end the weekend there. Whilst Squires are unbeaten in their last six league games and are one of the form sides in the division - an exciting evening under the lights ahead.

Saturday sees the rest of the NWCFL top flight in action. League leaders 1874 Northwich play hosts to bottom side Litherland REMYCA. On paper, it may look like a straight forward game for the men from CW8, but following their win last weekend against Barnoldswick Town, REMCYA will be full of confidence knowing how vital a win could be.

Just 12.1miles separates Ashton Athletic and Burscough as they go head to head, with both teams knowing how important three points would be. Burscough are hoovering at the wrong end of the table, whilst Ashton need to improve their inconsistent form if they want to challenge for one of the promotion places.

At the Vestacare Stadium, Avro play Congleton Town - a mid-table clash between two decent sides, whilst Irlam travel to Charnock Richard in a 6th versus 2nd challenge. Charnock may have played the most games in the division, but with the points already on the board they occupy one of the coveted promotion spots with just over three months of the season remaining. Michael Dodd's Irlam also has high ambitions and will be looking to bounce back from two straight league defeats.

Hanley Town have another tough game on their hands as they host Northwich Victoria, both sides have had a difficult few weeks in the league and will be looking at securing those three points.

4th face 10th at the Mike Riding Ground as Longridge Town host Winsford United, and after their 2-0 loss last week to Padiham, Lee Ashcroft's Lancashire men will be hoping to go into next week's FA Vase game with all three points in the bag this weekend.

Rylands have had a difficult festive period, with one draw and a loss, and will be wishing farewell to the end of 2019, and hoping 2020 starts much better as they face a trip to Barnoldswick Town - themselves on a streak of three consecutive losses.

Third-bottom Skelmersdale United welcome 17th-placed Padiham in a real six-pointer towards the bottom end of the table - a win for either team would lift them up towards guaranteed safety.

Lastly, Runcorn Town travel to Whitchurch Alport, and both outfits know that to make a serious push towards the top end of the standings - a good run of form must have started soon, rather than later.
