NWCFL Matchday Review 2019/20 #38 Part 1
Fri 27th December 2019 | Match Reviews | By Craig Kendall
The whole NWCFL Premier Division was scheduled to play on Boxing Day, but there were four postponements due to waterlogged pitches meaning just six went ahead.
With the top two not in action, Bootle took full advantage as they defeated Litherland REMYCA 1-0 thanks to a first-half Cameron Grant goal - with 202 fans watching on.
Elsewhere, Charnock Richard was heading for a defeat by Ashton Athletic as they went into injury-time 2-1 down. But, a Spencer Bibby goal followed by a last-gasp Jordan Darr goal turned the tie on its head as Charnock finished Matchday #38 third in the standings.
Another cracker, this time at Hanley Town, as came from behind twice to win against Congleton Town 4-3. Aaron Johns initially put the visitors in front, but a penalty from Neil Cope levels things up before three minutes Oliver Mellow put Michael Morton's side in front. Kyle Diskin put Congleton back level and added a second to his tally just before the break to once again lead. Jonathan Higham netted on 54 minutes to level the tie, then with just five minutes to go Joshua Thorpe popped up to net the winner, sending the home fans into a festive frenzy.
Avro ended the day in ninth following their 2-0 away win at Irlam, a goal in each half settled the tie.
Runcorn Town fans were about to head for the exit at Rylands thinking they were going to lose 1-0, but a late Deklan Hill strike in the 94th minute saw the tie end as a draw.
Finally, Skelmersdale United move ground to the JMO Sports Park this week and made it a winning start for Paul McNally's side who swept aside Burscough 4-0, with 266 paying spectators watching on.
The action in the NWCFL top-flight returns on Saturday, when every side in action up and down the region.
