On Tuesday afternoon, NWCFL Chairman Paul Lawler was invited onto Matt Jones' Radio City Talk Full-Time show to discuss the recent partnership with State of Mind and the 2019/20 season ahead.

"It’s a partnership that we’re really delighted to be involved with", Paul commented. "They first approached us towards the end of last season to see if we’d be interested in a partnership. It followed on from a number of suicidal players who actually played in our League and it’s something that we’ve been very conscious of supporting, over the years.

"Sadly there was a death later in the season of one of our players and State of Mind got involved with their club and did some mental health training there. We just thought what a great idea to bring a charity like State of Mind into all of our clubs and help try to promote positive mental health in those clubs. It’s not just about players; it’s about officials and supporters. At the end of the day we want to start talking and, if this partnership actually saves a life, I think it will be truly successful."

Paul was asked if he was excited about for forthcoming season, "It’s exciting and it’s also a busy time of the year. When most people look at the fixture list and say, “You’ve got the summer off!” it doesn’t’ really work that way! Unfortunately, it’s a really, really busy time for both leagues and clubs. There’s a lot of preparation that gets under way on the very last day of the season and carries right the way through the summer, Once the season starts, I think we all breathe a bit of a sigh of relief and get to enjoy the football again, whereas in the meantime, in the summer months, there’s a lot of work involved."
