Macron Challenge Cup Final - 1874 Northwich v City of Liverpool
Fri 3rd May 2019 | Macron Cup | By Ian Templeman
An exciting Saturday afternoon showdown is in prospect as 1874 Northwich take on City of Liverpool in the final of the Macron Challenge Cup tomorrow.
For the first time, the J. Davidson Stadium in Altrincham is the venue for the final of the League's Premier competition, and Premier Division champions City of Liverpool will be looking to round off a memorable season with a league and cup double.
Standing in their way are an 1874 Northwich side that are appearing in their first ever league cup final, and the view from both camps is that an exciting and close fought final is in prospect.
1874 Northwich joint-manager Paul Bowyer:
"We know all about them and we know what their strengths are, and they are a good side going forward.
"The league went right to the last game of the season and not many teams win a league and cup double at the end of a season, there are not that many trophies to play for. So we can be sure they will be well motivated going into the game.
"We know they will be a formidable team and we know it's going to be a really competitive final".
City of Liverpool manager Craig Robinson:
"They have been in good form at the back end of the season and we have got to give them respect and make sure that we turn up. They have Scott McGowan up front who has been their leading scorer for a while and have other good players as well.
"I am expecting an exciting final. I've been lucky enough to play in finals myself, but equally I know how infrequently they come about. I will be telling all our players, especially our young players how lucky they are to be in a final and to experience it, and let's hope it will be a successful one.
"We have done our main job, in getting promotion and winning the league, and the cup final is something everyone is looking forward to, our fans and everyone involved at the club".
Admission to the game for non-ticket holders will be £10 adult, £5 concessions, £3 Children (Children under 16 will be admitted free of charge with a paying adult).
Turnstiles will be open from 11.45am. There is on street parking for general spectators.
The match programme will be priced at £1.50 and will be on sale at the ground.
