A mixture of cup and league action was on offer in the final fixtures of the month on Saturday.

The headline story was in the Buildbase FA Vase Semi Final 2nd Leg, where Northwich Victoria lost 5-3 in a penalty shoot out to Chertsey Town, after the game ended 0-0 after extra time and 1-1 on aggregate.

A report on the game can be found by clicking here.

There was also semi-final action in both the league's cup competitions, and after the Macron Cup Semi Final 1st leg ties, both City of Liverpool and 1874 Northwich hold an advantage following good away wins.

A hat trick of headers from Jack Hazelhurst was the highlight of City of Liverpool's 3-1 win at Avro, while Scott McGowan also hit three in 1874 Northwich's 5-0 win at Congleton Town. Jack Pritchard and Taylor Kennerley were the other scorers for the Greens.

In the First Division Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg Sandbach United booked their place in the final with a 5-1 win over Carlisle City, which gave them a 9-3 aggregate win.

By half time Marc Shiel had given Carlisle a glimmer of hope with a 27th minute opener, but after the break, goals from Christopher Rowntree, Josh Lane, Kris Stockton, Jack Hart and Ryan Allcock marched United to a comfortable win and a place in the final against Avro.

With City of Liverpool in cup action, Bootle took the opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the Premeir Division between themselves and their tenants to two points, with 4-0 home win over Litherland REMYCA.

Two goals in the opening 34 minutes from Connor Millington and Liam Loughlin built the foundations for the victory, before Carl Peers and Lee Hughes added two further goals in the final five minutes.

There were several games that affected the positions at the bottom of the table, and at Brocstedes Park, Ashton Athletic's 3-0 win over Abbey Hey ensured that Abbey will be playing First Division football next season as the result confirmed their relegation.

Two goals from Christopher Bandell and one from Adam Gilchrist in the opening 34 minutes made it a comfortable win for the Yellows.

The other relegation place is currently occupied by West Didsbury & Chorlton whose 2-1 defeat at home to Squires Gate leaves them six points from safety with only four games remaining.

First half goals from James Boyd and Richard Seear put Gate in charge, although Ezequiel Miranda pulled back a goal for West in stoppage time.

Winsford United are six points above West Didsbury after going down 3-0 at Runcorn Town. Second half goals from Dale Jennings, a Simon Thelwell penalty and Francois Antoine earned Town the points.

Barnoldswick Town ended a seven game losing run with a 2-1 win at Padiham, first half goals from Lewis Morgan and Zack Dale setting them on the way to a result that leaves Padiham still uncomfortably close to the relegation zone.

In the mid-table clash at Mossie Park, Connor Martin scored twice in Irlam's 3-1 win at Charnock Richard.

None of the top three were in action in the First Division North, but AFC Liverpool consolidated their fourth place spot with a 3-2 win at Steeton.

Two goals from Ben Clarkson had Steeton ahead at the break, but two second half goals from Anthony Lyons saw the three points head back to Merseyside.

Lee Grimshaw and Connor Smith scored in the last 20 minutes of Prestwich Heys' 2-0 win at Bacup Borough that keeps them in fifth place, and AFC Darwen moved up into sixth place with a 2-0 home win over Shelley, thanks to goals from Daniel Taylor and an Elliott Pond penalty

St Helens Town moved nine points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-2 home win over AFC Blackpool, Neil Weaver scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute.

There was some joy at last for bottom club Atherton LR, for whom an 80th minute equaliser from Nathan Strong earned them a point from a 1-1 draw at home to Nelson, and Cleator Moor Celtic and Ashton Town also shared a 1-1 draw at JBV Park.

In the First Division South, Rylands took a huge step towards securing the title with a 3-0 home win over FC Oswestry Town.

Stu Wellstead, Tom Freeman and Warren Gerrard were on target for Rylands, and two wins from their last four games will ensure they finish top, although one win could be enough depending on results elsewhere.

The chase to catch Rylands is still led by Stone Old Alleynians, who won 2-0 at Cheadle Town through a Samuel Wilson goal and a David Ablewhite penalty.

Stone remain three points ahead of Vauxhall Motors in third place, for whom Joe Brandon and Karl Noon scored in the 2-1 win at Stockport Town.

Wythenshawe Town moved into fourth place with a 2-0 home win over Cammell Laird 1907, Grant Spencer and Ashley Leather getting the goals, and neighbours Wythenshawe Amateurs lost ground on those above them after being held to a 2-2 draw at Abbey Hulton United.

Lee Cropper's 82nd minute equaliser salvaged a point for Abbey.

Elsewhere, Remeece Brown scored a second half hat trick in the space of seven minutes for New Mills in the 6-2 win at St Martins, and Luke Wilson-Jones was another hat trick hero, bagging a treble in Barnton's 5-1 home win over Eccleshall.

There was a welcome home win for second bottom Ellesmere Rangers, 2-0 at home to Alsager Town, and Stone Dominoes remain bottom after losing 6-0 at home to Cheadle Heath Nomads.
