More Vase joy for Vics
There have been some dark days for Northwich Victoria in recent years, but there's certainly an upbeat mood around the club at the moment.
The weekend win over Sholing in the Buildbase FA Vase quarter final was the latest in a series of memorable cup days this season, and two are on the horizon with a two legged semi final on the 16th and 23rd March to look forward to.
Could Vics be the latest of our clubs to grace the Wembley turf in the Vase final? You wouldn't bet against them.
Heartbreak for Barlick
You would have to possess a heart of stone if you didn't have some sympathy for Barnoldswick Town at the end of their West Riding County Cup semi-final last Tuesday.
After going 3-0 down inside 15 minutes against Guiseley from Vanarama National League North, Barlick battled back to draw level with ten minutes to go, only to concede a gaol in stoppage time.
Manager Matt Barnes insisted afterwards that it was a result and performance that put the club on the map, and no one would disagree.
Goals galore at Gate
Anyone attending Squires Gate games at the Brian Addison Stadium recently can't complain about the value for money for the admission fee.
Saturday's 5-2 win over Barnoldswick Town was the second game in a row that produced seven goals, following on from the 4-3 defeat to Silsden two weeks earlier.
A closer look at recent results reveals that out of the last seven of Gate's home games, only twice has there been less than four goals.
Gate only have three home games left to play, so anyone fancying a taste of the goal action need to get over there soon.
Late late show from Town
One team that secured what appeared to be an unlikely victory on Saturday were Wythenshawe Town, who pinched a 3-2 win at Maine Road in an incredible finish to the game.
Trailing 2-1 in the 90th minute to a team that had won its previous six games, Connor Brotherton levelled for Town in the 90th minute but they weren't finished then, as Grant Spencer scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to seal what had looked an unlikely win a few minutes earlier.
Town have been prolific scorers on the road this season, and Saturday proves that defences need to be on guard right up until the final whistle.
Dominoes stand tall again
When you lose a game 13-0, it's fair to say that the only way is up from that point onwards.
So it's a well done to Stone Dominoes, who recovered from their chastening experinence at the hands of Cheadle Town to bounce back with a 2-1 win over Barnton three days later. Not only that, it was a resuylt that ended a run of 12 successive defeats.
There's still some work to do if the Doms are to escape relegation, but Tuesday's result shows there is still plenty of fighting spirit in the camp.
