Welcome to Pascal
We've not had the chance to watch many former Premier League players in our league down the years, so it was good to see former Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur defender Pascal Chimbonda play a full 90 minutes for Ashton Town against Bacup Borough on Saturday.
The presence of some Wigan Athletic colours among the spectators suggested that a few Latics fans had been tempted to come down and watch, and hopefully after watching a 6-2 win for Town, they liked what they saw, and will come down to watch Pascal and his Ashton team mates again in the coming weeks.
Seven up for Avro again
We have noted previously on these pages that Avro's goalscoring form at home takes some beating, and once again spectators at the Vestacare Stadium were treated to a goalfest on Saturday.
The 7-1 defeat of Carlisle City was the fourth time this season that Avro have scored seven in a home game - and they have also hit six on two other occasions as well.
With eight home games still to be played, anyone who fancies a game with plenty of goals should check the Avro fixture list and get the dates in the diary.
Big win for Silsden
With six defeats in their last seven games up to Saturday, Silsden could have been forgiven for treating a trip to league leaders City of Liverpool with a certain amount of trepidation.
For their part, the Purps went into the game on the back of five successive wins, but as we know in football, the form book can occasionally be turned upside down - as was proved on Saturday.
A 2-1 win for the Cobbydalers was not what many would have predicted, but credit must go to Danny Forrest's men for ending their bad run of results in fine style.
Yellows on fire
The form team in the Premier Division at the moment are Ashton Athletic, with Saturday's win at Burscough propelling them up to fifth place in the table.
It's now seven successive wins for the Yellows, and the run at the start of December where they lost three league games in succession is now well and truly forgotten.
With a tasty Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy semi-final against Southport coming up in a few weeks, there's plenty for everyone to be upbeat about around Brocstedes Park.
Stags on form
For a team positioned just above the relegation zone in the First Division North, the last couple of weeks have been good ones for Holker Old Boys.
After a run of four straight defeats, the Stags recorded a 3-0 win over fellow relegation rivals Daisy Hill and followed that up with a 6-2 win over fifth placed Lower Breck on Saturday - hardly the form of a team battling against relegation.
With three of their next four games at home, hopes will be high at Rakesmoor Lane that the good run of form can continue.
