1874 Northwich are now flying the flag for the League in the last four of the Buildbase FA Vase, after a 1-0 win at Leighton Town in their quarter final tie.

A 25th minute penalty from Scott McGowan sealed victory for the Greens, who were backed by a large travelling support in Bedfordshire.

Runcorn Linnets continued to set the pace at the top of the Hallmark Security League Premier Division with a 4-1 victory at Barnoldswick Town, who drop to 10th.

The sides were tied at 1 apiece at half time before Freddie Potter took control of the game and hit a hat-trick to give Linnets the victory.

2nd place Widnes have now picked up 40 points from a possible 42 after matching Runcorn’s win with a 4-1 victory of their own against City of Liverpool.

Goals from Pollard, Towey, Hodkinson and Chris Lomax put the away side 4-0 up with Joseph Camozzi providing a consolation goal for the Purps who slip to 9th.

Charnock Richard fell to a 2-1 defeat to Padiham to lose pace on the top 2. Aaron Fleming hit the winner immediately after Nathan Fairhurst equalised for the away side.

With Hanley not in action, Runcorn Town moved into 4th after a 5-0 dismantling of bottom side Barnton, who are still 19 points from safety. A hat-trick from Craig Cairns helped Town to a big victory.

Bootle kept up their perfect form with a 4-0 win at Winsford United for their 7th win in a row which has saw them score 34 goals. In form front men Kevin Edgar and Connor Millington got on the scoresheet as well as Andrew Gillespie finding the net for the 4th game running.

A brace from Joel Brownhill gave Ashton Athletic a 2-0 win at Northwich Victoria for their 3rd win in 4 whilst Squires Gate overtook their opponents Congleton Town into 13th with a 1-0 away win, a late goal from Harry Charnley sealing the game for the visitors.

Burscough won the big clash at the bottom of the table at Maine Road by the odd goal in 5. An early flurry of goals saw Burscough 3-1 up after 25 minutes with a goal from Sean Cookson not proving to be enough for Maine Road.

The away side move 4 points clear of the drop zone whilst the Sky Blues fall into the bottom 4 as results went against them.

Abbey Hey looked set for a massive win at West Didsbury & Chorlton but Tom Bailey pegged them back with 5 minutes left and Abbey Hey had to settle for a 2-2 draw. However, they did move out of the relegation places on goal difference.

AFC Darwen managed just their 3rd win of the campaign as they beat Irlam 5-3 in a high scoring game at The Arnbitek Stadium. Two goals from Ryan Steele helped Darwen claim their 1st league win since the 1st week of September.

In the First Division, it was a case of home comfort as in 6 of the 7 matches played, the victory went with the hosts.

The only exception to this was Litherland REMYCA, who won at Abbey Hulton United to cut Silsden’s lead at the top to 10 points. 2 goals from Colin McDonald either side of half time fired Remy to a 3-1 victory.

The table toppers were not in action today as their planned trip to Bacup Borough was postponed.

Whitchurch Alport stayed level on points with REMYCA as they won by the same score line against Chadderton at Yockings Park. A brace from Aaron Johns and an added time goal from Ryan Thomas helped the home side extend their unbeaten league run to 14 matches.

Prestwich Heys’ match against Alsager Town fell foul to the weather, which allowed the teams around them in the playoff hunt to capitalise, as they all won today.

Sandbach United cut the gap to Heys to just the 1 point after a dramatic 2-1 win over bottom side Nelson. Daniel Mort gave the Nelson the lead before half time but 2 goals in the last 5 minutes from Kris Stockton and James Kirby turned the game in Sandbach’s favour and secure a precious victory from the jaws of defeat.

6th place Cammell Laird kept up with the top 5 after their 3-1 home victory over Carlisle City. Lairds secured their 3rd win in a row through goals from the 3 m’s, Maciness, Malkin, and Maldon.

AFC Blackpool maintained pace with the play offs with a 1-0 win over New Mills as the tangerines notched their 1st win in 5 league matches.

Holker Old Boys produced the performance of the day in the First Division by hammering FC Oswestry Town 6-1 at Rakesmoor, moving into 9th in the process.

The home team were 4-0 up at the break with the goals including a brace from Nathan Reid. Holker added a 5th but were pegged back by Edward Moss, however restored their 5-goal lead through Calum Baynes with just over 10 minutes to go.

The other result today saw Eccleshall continue to distance themselves from the relegation places after an impressive 4-1 win over Stockport Town, with 2 goals in 2nd half stoppage time from Louis Downs sealing an important win.

On Friday evening, Atherton LR clinched a place in the semi-final of the LWC Drinks First Division Cup, with a 1-0 win at Daisy Hill.  Ben Giverin scored the only goal of the game 11 minutes from time.
