Whilst the Premier Division has largely ground to a halt over recent weeks/months it has been interesting to note that whilst Division One games have been as irregular as lottery wins, there have still been games played at a trickle and moving and shaking has still managed to take place.  The forecast for the weekend isn’t brilliant but it has more potential than some weeks of late so let’s see what could happen this weekend.

Litherland Remyca host Eccleshall at Litherland Sports Park with Remyca looking to take the points and keep the looming force that is Whitchurch Alport on their toes.  Eccleshall are currently eighteenth in the table but go into this game off the back of two straight wins.  These sides have met five times and Remyca have won only two of the meetings and only one at home, that was a 3-1 win at this venue back in December 2016.

Fourth place Prestwich Heys and fifth placed Sandbach United meet at Adie Moran Park in a game both clubs will be looking to win to consolidate their places in the top six.  Heys are unbeaten in their last six league games and that includes recently holding league leaders Silsden 2-2.  Sandbach have grafted their way back into the top six having been on the edges of it for a while and they have done it beating sides in the bottom half of the table as well as seeing off Cammell Laird 1907 who are one of the clubs eagerly eyeing up their position in the play-off zone.

The Alport Machine continues to move apace as second placed Whitchurch Alport take on sixth placed Alsager Town at Yockings Park.  Alport have continued to put the pressure on the top two with an impressive string of results which is currently at eleven straight wins in all competitions.  Alsager have maintained their place in the top six but have been bobbing up and down like a message in a bottle of late, they aren’t the best of travellers though so face a tough ask this weekend.

Stockport Town take on AFC Blackpool at Lambeth Grove as both clubs continue their quest for a play-off spot.  The Mechanics aren’t too far off the pace at the moment only three points behind the top six whilst Stockport are nine points off it.  Cammell Laird are also in the mix for the coveted places, they are currently in seventh position and they will be keen to keep the pressure on the sides above them.  They travel to Little Wembley this weekend to take on in-form Nelson who are unbeaten in their last four league games, their last defeat was back on 6th January away at this weekend’s opponents.

Chadderton and St Helens Town meet at the ARK Fleetech Stadium with both sides needing a win really, they are 19th and 20th respectively in the table and have both under-performed by their own high standards this campaign.  New Mills in fourteenth could arguably say the same, they host Carlisle City at Church Road with the visitors in tenth position and by now way shape or form out of the play-off equation as they are only eight points behind sixth placed Alsager.

Cheadle Town take on Holker Old Boys in a busy week for both clubs, Cheadle have barely played a game this month whilst Holker are well positioned to mount an assault on the top six being well placed in the chasing pack.   Abbey Hulton United meet Daisy Hill at Birches Head Road hoping to play only their third game since Boxing Day, whilst Daisy Hill are still in the bottom two of the table and will be keen to climb away from any potential end of season bother.

Bacup Borough host Atherton LR at The Brian Boys West View Stadium with both clubs reasonably safe from any unlikely end of season change of heart on relegation, these sides met at Crilly Park in the reverse fixture as recently as 30th January and it was Bacup who were the victors on that night, leaving with a convincing 3-1 win, it was also the last fixture either of these clubs played in!
