Seasider special for City

It may only be Carlisle City’s second season in the league, but they must already have The Mechanics Ground in Blackpool marked down as one of their favourite venues.

After winning twice there last season in both the league and cup, City made it three out of three with a 3-1 win over AFC Blackpool on the Fylde coast on Saturday, and also continued the trend of scoring three goals on each visit up to now.

City also won at home against the Seasiders in the league game at Gillford Park last season, so they must be looking forward to welcoming Dave Worthington’s men when they visit on the 27th February.

Big six for Hanley Town

After a horrendous run of form that saw them lose six games in a row, Hanley Town appear to banishing the memory of their mid-season blues.

A draw last time out against high flying Widnes suggested that a revival was underway, and that was underlined on Saturday with a 6-2 home win over West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Their bad run saw them slip from a high of second place down to their current position of fifth, but hopes will now be high that a highest ever league finish is still on cards for Michael Edwards and his men.

Home run continues for Lairds

Cammell Laird 1907’s 2-1 home win over Stockport Town on Saturday continued one of the most impressive runs of home form in the league.

Lairds’ home league record reads won 10, drawn 2 and lost 1, but the defeat and one of the draws both arose in August, and since then, it’s been wins all the way barring one game.

Their latest victory moved them into a promotion play off place and with eight home games still to play, hopes will be high in the camp that the points total will further boosted in the months to come.

Widnes bandwagon back on track

Once again Widnes experienced the winning habit with a 2-0 derby win over Runcorn Town at the Select Security Stadium on Friday.

It’s now ten wins and a draw from 11 games for Widnes, form that sees them at the top of the current form table in the Premier Division, and Friday’s victory also saw them complete a league double over Runcorn Town – the only team to do so this season so far.

Ste Akrigg and Kev Towey’s men have played more league games than anyone else in the league, but they certainly won’t be tired of the winning habit.

Supporters just keep on giving

It’s been a good week for charity collections around the league, with a fundraising bucket collection at the City of Liverpool v Bootle game in midweek being followed by similar events at Padiham and Hanley Town on Saturday.

The list of clubs that have organised collections for local worthy causes at games this season is growing by the week, and is a great demonstration of the way in which our clubs reach out to their local communities and charities to help their own and support them whenever they can.
