Once again, the weather made its mark on the weekend's scheduled fixtures, with just three games taking place in the Premier Division, although the First Division fared slightly better with seven games going ahead.
The Premier Division fixture that was arguably the stand out game of the weekend did beat the wintry blast on Friday evening, and Runcorn Linnets consolidated their place at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Hanley Town at the Millbank Linnets Stadium.
The game was goalless until the 67th minute when Freddie Potter broke the deadlock, and he added a second to seal the win six minutes from time.
Just two games took place on Saturday, and Maine Road made it a South Manchester derby double with a 4-0 win at Abbey Hey following on from their Boxing Day victory over West Didsbury & Chorlton.
The star of the show was Jack Coop, who opened the scoring in the ninth minute, and after Gregory Willis had doubled Road’s advantage by half time, Coop completed his hat trick with two further goals in the last 12 minutes.
Congleton Town also rounded off 2017 with a derby win, cruising to a 5-1 victory over bottom of the table Barnton.
William Hasler-Cregg and Declan Fletcher had given the Bears a two goal lead at the break, and Barnton were given a glimmer of hope when Samuel Houghton reduced the arrears in the 54th minute.
But Hasler-Cregg notched his second of the afternoon 18 minutes from time to restore the two goal advantage, and Liam Moran and Oliver Ford rounded off the win with goals in the final 11 minutes.
In the First Division, league leaders Silsden AFC suffered the relatively uncommon experience of a defeat, going down 3-1 at Sandbach United.
It was all going well until the 70th minute, with the Cobbydalers in front thanks to a Chris Wademan goal, but then the game was turned on its head with goals from Stuart Tulloch, Kris Stockton and Ryan Allcock pinching the points for United.
The Cobbydalers still lead the table by nine points, although all their nearest challengers who were in action all won to narrow the gap on the leaders.
Litherland REMYCA remain tucked in behind the Yorkshiremen in second place, and kept up the pressure with a 2-0 win at Eccleshall. Michael Boyle got Remy off to a good start with a 10th minute opener, and then Colin McDonald added a second on the hour.
Prestwich Heys remain in third place, four points behind Remy, although they had to come from behind to eventually win 3-1 at home to Bacup Borough.
Benjamin Rhodes had given Borough a 19th minute lead that they held until the 66th minute when Ashley Stott equalised, and then two goals in the space of four minutes from Lee Bruce sealed the win for Heys.
Whitchurch Alport kept up their recent good form with a 5-1 win over St Helens Town at Yockings Park.
An early Own Goal got Alport off to a good start but they were pegged back in the 22nd minute when Daniel Lomax levelled for Town from the penalty spot.
But second half goals from Ben Mills, Elliot Ledwards, Sean Griffiths and Dean Twigg ensured a comfortable win for the home side.
Cammell Laird 1907 stay four points away from the play off places, despite going down 3-0 at Cheadle Town.
Richard Whyatt gave Cheadle the lead on 21 minutes, but victory was only sealed in the final minute when further goals from Callum Collinson and a second from Whyatt put a more convincing slant on the result.
Carlisle City moved to within six points of the play off places with a 1-0 win at Stockport Town, David Renyard netting the all important goal three minutes into the second half.
The Friday night fixture at the Venue between FC Oswestry Town and New Mills produced a 2-0 win for the Shropshiremen, Jack Harris and Daniel Tinsley on target for Town.
