Five FA Vase ties, seven Premier Division games, and eight Division One games produced plenty of points to ponder at the weekend.

Ashton Athletic and City of Liverpool are defintely through to the Third Round of the Buildbase FA Vase, while Runcorn Linnets and 1874 Northwich need to emerge victorious from midweek ties to join them.

Ashton Athletic produced a backs-to-the-wall performance to earn a 1-0 win over 2016 Vase winners Morpeth Town at Brocstedes Park, with Danny Smith's early goal proving to be decisive for the Yellows.

City of Liverpool also booked their place in the next round at the expense of Northern League opponents Ryhope CW, the Purples winning 2-1 in the North East thanks to goals from Joseph Camozzi and Karl Noon.

Runcorn Linnets face a long midweek trip up to the North East after being held to a 1-1 draw at to Sunderland RCA. Extra time failed to separate the sides in a game where both goals arrived in the opening half hour, with Stuart Wellstead levelling for Linnets after they had gone behind earlier.

1874 Northwich's game against Tow Low Town was postponed and they will try again on Tuesday evening, but it's the end of the Vase campaign for Bootle and Alsager Town, who both lost on away trips.

Goals in the opening 20 minutes from Liam Loughlin and Stephen Milne put Bootle 2-1 ahead at Stockton Town, but the home side levelled late in the second half to take the game into extar time, and eventually won 4-2.

Racing Club Warwick built a two goal lead by half time against Alsager Town, and although Jordan Cobley pulled a goal back for the Bullets with 20 minutes remaining, their failure to add to that meant the home side progressed with a 2-1 win.

In the Premier Division, it looked like there might be a surprise result when AFC Darwen built a two goal lead over unbeaten league leaders Runcorn Town, thanks to goals from Kiel Lonsdale and Ryan McKenna. But a Paul McManus penalty and a Craig Cairns penalty earned Town a 2-2 draw.

Their lead at the top is six points, with Hanley Town moving ahead of Runcorn Linnets and into second place with a 3-2 win at Abbey Hey, with Dan Cope's second goal of the afternoon in the 90th minute pinching all three points for the Potteries Park men.

Charnock Richard are in fifth place after a Carl Grimshaw goal earned them a 1-1 draw at Congleton Town, and Padiham moved into seventh place with two goals from Spencer Jordan helping them to a 5-3 home win over Barnton.

There was also a 5-3 scoreline in the Friday night fixture at West Didsbury & Chorlton, with Matty Boland and Marcus Perry both scoring twice for visitors Irlam in an end-to-end Manchester derby clash.

Goals from Oscar Durnin, Brian Matthews and Jason Hart saw Northwich Victoria to a 3-1 win over Barnoldswick Town, and Burscough beat Maine Road 2-1.

In the First Division, Silsden AFC continued their march at the top of the table with a 5-1 win at home to Daisy Hill. Joe Gaughan and Nicholas McNally both scored twice for the Cobbydalers to maintain their 100% league record and extend their lead at the top to eleven points.

Litherland REMYCA lost ground after being held to a 3-3 draw at home to Atherton LR. Remy had built a 3-1 lead through goals from Stephen King, Colin McDonald and Joel Douglas that they held until nine minutes from the end, before Nathan Strong and Christian Grundy rescued a point for LR.

Sandbach United rounded off a good few days with Kris Stockton and James Kirby on target in a 2-1 win at Holker Old Boys that moves them into fifth place, and AFC Blackpool are only outside the play off positions on goal difference following a 4-2 win over Nelson at the Mechanics.

Cammell Laird 1907 and Stockport Town are still separated by three points after the sides drew 1-1 at the Stockport Sports Village and Abbey Hulton United continued their good home form with a 3-2 win over New Mills, in which Kieron Ball scored twice for United.

Another in-form side, FC Oswestry Town, won 2-0 at home to Bacup Borough, through goals from Jack Harris and Gary Meredith, and it was the same score at Chadderton with Jordan Matthew and Matthew Buckley on target in the victory over Cheadle Town.

A 79th minute Travis Johnson penalty sealed a welcome 2-1 win for Eccleshall at home to Carlisle City.
