After a busy week of league and cup action comes a reduced Premier Division programme owing to FA Vase Round One tues taking place. However, as always, despite a reduced set of fixtures it makes them no less important with valuable points up for grabs throughout the table.
Starting this week at the Marine Travel Arena where AFC Liverpool look to halt their slide as they host Padiham. It has been a difficult month or so for Chris Stammers Reds’ as they have hit a poor run of form that has seen then drop to 18th in the table and on a run of seven straight defeats.
Padiham have been upwardly mobile over the same period and currently sit ninth in the table, however they sustained their first defeat since the 2nd September last Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Hanley Town.
Barnoldswick Town host Abbey Hey at the Silentnight Stadium with these two clubs having been almost side by side in the table for the last few weeks. Barnoldswick have been disappointing at home of late with only one win from their last seven games at home in all competitions, however they did pick up a decent looking 0-2 away win at West Didsbury and Chorlton on Wednesday evening that lifted them to tenth in the table. Meanwhile, Abbey Hey have been decent on the road, losing only once in their travels which was against Bootle a fortnight ago.
Northwich Victoria welcome Congleton Town to Townfield with Vics’ having had a decent week, a 2-0 win away at Irlam last week lifted them out of the relegation zone and then they beat Whitchurch Alport at home in the Macron Cup 1st round on penalties. They will be looking to build on that momentum as they take on a Congleton side in good league form at present
Congleton currently sit tenth in the table on 16 points are are unbeaten in their last three league games, although they did got out of the Macron Cup on Tuesday evening at the hands of Cammell Laird 1907.
Widnes and Maine Road face-off at the Select Security Stadium with both clubs keen to end disappointing runs. Eleventh places Widnes go into this game on the back of three successive 2-2 draws, the latest of which was last Saturday at home to 1874 Northwich.
Maine Road will be looking for a positive result following a heavy 7-1 defeat in round one of the Macron Cup, away at Division One Stockport Town in midweek. It was their heaviest defeat of the season and with difficult looking fixtures coming up, they will be keen to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom six.
New Squires Gate manager, Andy Clarkson gets a baptism of fire at the weekend as he takes his side to the St Lukes Barton Stadium to face high flying Winsford United. Gate’ put an end to a run of five games without a win last weekend with a dramatic 5-4 home win over AFC Last weekend and have climbed off the bottom of the table to 21st, with their eyes on the clubs above them.
Winsford have a similar stance but are seventh in the table and will be keen to continue putting pressure on the group chasing the top two-three clubs near the summit. Winsford do score Goals though, eleven of them in their last three games in all competitions, four of which came in their midweek 4-3 win over Barnton in the first round of the Macron Cup.
